1) Can I use a malleable iron LL Condulet in a hazardous or classified area?
No. These Form 5 LL bodies are rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. For Class I or Class II classified areas you need an explosionproof body built and marked for that classification, not an ordinary-location Condulet.
2) Will a Crouse-Hinds LL Condulet thread onto rigid steel conduit and IMC?
Yes. The hubs are threaded, so they take rigid metal conduit and IMC, which use the same NPT-style tapered conduit thread in a given trade size. It is not a fitting for EMT, which is unthreaded; EMT needs a set-screw or compression connector into a threaded body or a different fitting entirely.
3) I am replacing an existing Crouse-Hinds LL50 on a 1/2 inch rigid run. Is LL50M the same part?
For a 1/2 inch threaded rigid or IMC run, LL50M is the malleable iron Form 5 LL body in that trade size, so it drops onto the same threads as the body you are pulling off. Confirm the one coming out is also an LL (left-hand outlet) and not an LR or LB before you order, since the shape is what sets the routing.
4) What trade sizes does the Crouse-Hinds LL Condulet come in?
Nine trade sizes, from 1/2 inch up through 4 inch: 1/2 (LL50M), 3/4 (LL75M), 1 (LL100M), 1-1/4 (LL125M), 1-1/2 (LL150M), 2 (LL200M), 2-1/2 (LL250M), 3 (LL300M) and 4 inch (LL400M). The M suffix is the malleable iron body. Match the trade size to your conduit, not to the conductor count.
5) Does the LL Condulet body ship with a cover and gasket?
The LL body is the casting itself. Covers and gaskets for Form 5 Condulet bodies are ordered separately and matched to the body's trade size, so plan on adding a cover (and a gasket if the location calls for one) to finish the installation.
6) Is a malleable iron conduit body better than aluminum for an outdoor or industrial run?
Malleable iron is the heavier, higher-strength choice and is what most industrial and commercial specs call for on steel conduit systems, where it also keeps the raceway metallurgy consistent. Aluminum bodies are lighter and often preferred on aluminum conduit or where weight matters. These LL bodies are malleable iron.
7) Will an LL Condulet satisfy an inspector as a pull point on a long conduit run?
Yes, that is the normal use. The body is built to NEC/CEC requirements, and a removable-cover conduit body gives you the accessible pulling point code expects on long runs and at bends. Conductors pass through it; the body is not a splice box unless it is one that is marked and sized for conductor volume.
