1) What is a C-shape condulet body used for versus an LB or T body?
A C body is a straight-through pull fitting: both hubs are in line, and the removable cover gives you access to pull and feed conductors in a long run. The Crouse-Hinds C75M is the 3/4 inch C-shape version in malleable iron. If you need to turn 90 degrees where conduit comes out of a wall and drops down, you want an LB instead, and a T body when you need to branch a third run. No. The C75M is rated for ordinary, non-hazardous locations only. For a Class I or Class II classified area you need an explosionproof condulet built for that classification, not this one.

No. The C75M is a C-shape body, which is a straight-through body with a removable cover for wire pulling and splicing on an in-line run. For a run that leaves the conduit and turns back through a wall, you want an LB-configuration body, such as the Kraloy 078146 in the LB25 series, which is an LB access fitting supplied with cover and gasket. Choose the C-shape where the conduit continues in a straight line and you need pulling access, and the LB where the run has to make the back-entry turn.
5) Can I use a PVC conduit body instead of the Crouse-Hinds C75M on my run?
They are different material systems and are sized differently. The C75M is malleable iron in 3/4 inch trade size, intended for ordinary/non-hazardous locations and built to NEC/CEC requirements. The Kraloy 078146 LB25 is a PVC fitting in 2-1/2 inch. Match the body material to the raceway you are running - iron bodies land on threaded rigid or IMC, PVC bodies solvent-weld to PVC conduit - and match the trade size to the conduit, so a 3/4 inch iron run is not served by a 2-1/2 inch PVC fitting.
6) How much space do I need to fit the C75M in a wall cavity or tight chase?
Plan on roughly 6 inches along the run, with 1.5 inches of width and 1.7 inches of height for the body itself. Add clearance on the cover side so you can get the cover off and your hands in for the pull, otherwise you have a fitting you cannot work in.
7) Is a malleable iron conduit body worth it over a PVC or die-cast fitting?
Malleable iron holds up to impact and mechanical abuse, which is why it gets specified in industrial plants, mechanical rooms, and anywhere a fitting can get hit. It is also a metallic body, so it stays part of the equipment grounding path in a metal raceway system. For a PVC raceway you would use a PVC body instead, such as the Kraloy LB25 access fitting, which is a PVC LB supplied with cover and gasket. Do not mix a metal body into a PVC run without sorting the transition and bonding.
