2) Can I use a CB clampback on both EMT and rigid conduit, or do I need a different part for each?
One part covers both. The Series CB clampback is rated for EMT and for Rigid/IMC, so a CB3 works on 1 inch EMT or 1 inch rigid. Order by trade size only. That is why crews doing mixed runs, EMT above the ceiling and rigid on the exterior wall, can stock a single set of sizes instead of two.
3) What does a clampback actually do that a one-hole strap doesn't?
A clampback is a spacer as well as a strap. A plain one-hole strap pulls the conduit down onto the surface. If the run just needs securing against a dry interior stud, a strap is enough; if it needs standoff, the CB is the part.
