2) What hub sizes does the Crouse-Hinds UNL 90 degree union come in?
Four combinations: 1/2 inch to 1/2 inch (UNL105), 3/4 inch to 3/4 inch (UNL205), and two reducing versions, 3/4 inch female to 1/2 inch male (UNL125) and 1/2 inch female to 3/4 inch male (UNL215). The reducing sizes let you change trade size and direction in one fitting, so watch which end is female when you order.
3) What is the difference between UNL125 and UNL215 if both are 1/2 and 3/4 inch?
The gender is flipped. UNL125 gives you a 3/4 inch female end and a 1/2 inch male end; UNL215 gives you a 1/2 inch female end and a 3/4 inch male end. Pick the one that matches the conduit already stubbed at each side of the joint, otherwise the fitting will not thread up.
4) Does the UNL union work with IMC, or is it rigid conduit only?
Both. The UNL is listed for rigid and IMC conduit, which share the same NPT thread form, so it lands on either in the same run. It is not an EMT fitting, EMT is unthreaded and takes a compression or setscrew connector instead.
5) Why use a 90 degree union instead of a straight union plus an elbow?
The UNL does both jobs in one body: it turns the run 90 degrees and gives you the union joint so a section can be broken out later without cutting conduit or unthreading a whole run. Fewer joints means fewer thread engagements to maintain in a Class I, Division 1 area. If the run does not need to turn, a straight union is the right part.
