1) What is the interrupting rating of the Eaton FDB3030 breaker at 240V and 480V?
The FDB3030 F-frame breaker interrupts 18 kAIC at 240 Vac and 14 kAIC at 480 Vac. If your available fault current at the panel exceeds those figures, this FDB frame is the wrong choice and you need a higher AIC F-frame breaker, or a series-rated combination documented for your panelboard.
2) Can the FDB3030 be used on a 480Y/277V three-phase system?
Yes. The FDB3030 is a three-pole breaker rated 600 Vac and 250 Vdc, so 480Y/277V and 208Y/120V three-phase systems are both within rating. At 480 Vac the interrupting capacity drops to 14 kAIC, versus 18 kAIC at 240 Vac, so size the application to the fault current at that voltage.
3) Is the FDB3030 adjustable, or is the trip setting fixed?
Fixed on both sides. The FDB3030 uses a fixed thermal, fixed magnetic trip unit at 30A, so there is no dial to adjust the instantaneous pickup. If your motor circuit needs an adjustable magnetic trip to ride through inrush, you want an adjustable-trip F-frame breaker or a motor circuit protector instead of this one.
4) Does the FDB3030 come as a complete breaker or do I need to order a trip unit and terminals separately?
It ships as a complete molded case breaker, so the frame and the 30A fixed trip come together as one assembly. Load side terminals are included. Mounting hardware, line side lugs or a panelboard connector kit depend on where you are installing it and are ordered to suit the enclosure.
5) Is the FDB3030 a direct replacement for an existing Eaton FD-frame breaker in my panel?
FDB is an F-frame Series C device, so it shares the F-frame footprint used across that family. What it does not share with every F-frame is interrupting capacity: FDB is the 18 kAIC at 240 Vac / 14 kAIC at 480 Vac rung. Swapping in an FDB where an HFD or FD of higher AIC was specified downgrades the short circuit rating of the panel, so match the AIC on the existing breaker label before substituting.
6) Will an FDB3030 fit in the space I have in my enclosure?
The breaker measures 6 in, 4.13 in and 3.38 in for height, width and length, and weighs 4.5 lb. That is the bare device, so allow for line and load conductor bending space and any door cutout or handle mechanism on top of those figures.
7) Is the FDB3030 a three-pole breaker, and can I use it for a single-phase 240V load?
It is a three-pole device. For a two-wire 240V single-phase load you would normally land on two of the poles, but check the panelboard schedule and local inspection practice before leaving a pole unused, and confirm the breaker occupies three spaces in your bus layout either way.
8) Can this 30A breaker be used on 50 Hz power for export or on generator systems?
