B-LINE HFD3015 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Eaton HFD3015 breaker work on a 480V three-phase panel?
Yes. The HFD3015 is rated 600 Vac and 250 Vdc, so it covers 208, 240 and 480 Vac three-phase systems. At 480 Vac its interrupting rating is 65 kAIC; at 240 Vac it is 100 kAIC. Match the available fault current at your panel against those numbers before you set it.
2) Is the HFD3015 a complete breaker or just the frame?
It ships as a complete breaker with the trip unit installed, not a bare frame that needs a rating plug. Trip is fixed thermal, fixed magnetic at 15A, so there is nothing to dial in and nothing further to order to make it functional.
3) What is the difference between an Eaton HFD and an FD frame breaker?
Both are F-frame Series C molded case breakers in the same physical envelope, and the HFD3015 is the high-interrupting version: 100 kAIC at 240 Vac and 65 kAIC at 480 Vac. The H prefix is what you specify when the available fault current at the panel exceeds what a standard FD can clear. Same 15A three-pole rating, same mounting.
4) Can I adjust the trip setting on the HFD3015?
No. The 15A HFD breaker uses a fixed thermal, fixed magnetic trip unit, so both the overload and the instantaneous pickup are factory set. If your coordination study calls for an adjustable magnetic or an electronic trip, this is the wrong unit for that circuit.
5) How much space do I need in the enclosure for an Eaton HFD3015?
Plan for a body measuring 6 x 4.13 x 3.38 inches (height, width, length as published) and 4.33 pounds. That is the breaker alone, so allow additional room for lug landings, wire bending space and any handle mechanism or flange operator you intend to add.
6) Does the HFD3015 come with lugs on both line and load ends?
Terminals are specified as load side. If your installation needs line side terminations as well, plan on ordering the appropriate F-frame terminal kit separately rather than assuming both ends arrive lugged.
7) Will this Eaton breaker work on 50 Hz power for export equipment?
It is rated 50/60 Hz, so it is suitable for both North American 60 Hz and 50 Hz systems, within its 600 Vac rating. It also carries a 250 Vdc rating for DC applications.
