B-LINE HKD3225W – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Eaton HKD3225W breaker come with lugs, or do I have to order terminals separately?
The HKD3225W ships without terminals. You'll need to order the correct K-frame terminal lugs for your conductor size and quantity separately, so plan that into the material list before the panel goes in. It is a complete breaker otherwise, three-pole and factory trip-set at 225A.
2) What is the interrupting rating of the HKD3225W at 480V?
65 kAIC at 480 Vac, and 100 kAIC at 240 Vac. That high interrupting capacity is the point of the HKD trip unit within the K-frame family, so if your available fault current study calls for 65 kA at 480V this breaker covers it without a current-limiting accessory.
3) Can the trip setting on the HKD3225W be adjusted in the field?
No. It uses a fixed thermal, fixed magnetic trip unit, so both the overload and the instantaneous pickup are set at the factory. If your coordination study needs an adjustable instantaneous or an electronic trip, this is the wrong unit and you'll want an adjustable-trip K-frame instead. As supplied it is a 225A three-pole device.
4) Will the HKD3225W work on a 600V three-phase system?
Yes, it's rated 600 Vac and 250 Vdc, at 50-60 Hz. Note the interrupting rating is published at 240 Vac and 480 Vac (100 kAIC and 65 kAIC), so confirm the available fault current at your 600V service against Eaton's rating for that voltage before you apply it there.
5) Is the HKD3225W a direct replacement for an existing Eaton Series C K-frame breaker?
It is an Eaton Series C K-frame, three-pole, 225A device with the HKD trip designation, so it matches the same Series C K-frame mounting family. Match the existing breaker's catalog number on the nameplate, and remember the interrupting rating differs across the K-frame trip letters (this one is 100 kAIC at 240 Vac, 65 kAIC at 480 Vac) so a lower-rated breaker can be replaced by it but not the reverse without checking the study. Terminals do not come with it, so reuse or reorder lugs.
6) What size opening and weight should I plan for when mounting a K-frame HKD breaker?
The HKD3225W measures 5.5 in high, 5.5 in wide and 4.1 in deep, and weighs 11.5 lb. At that weight it is a two-hand lift into a panel, and the K-frame footprint has to match the panelboard or enclosure interior you are installing it into.
