1) Does the Emtek 11A3 multi point trim include the multi point lock body, or just the handles and plates?
Trim only. The 11A3 set gives you the plates and handles for a swinging patio door, and the multi point mortise lock box is not included. If your door does not already have a working multi point lock in it, you need to source that gearbox separately and order this as the visible hardware over top of it.
2) Will Emtek 11A3 trim fit my Andersen or Marvin patio door?
Configuration #1 trim like the 11A3 is referenced to Atrium, G-U, KML by Andersen, Andersen, Marvin Integrity, Paddock Lockmaster and Superior doors. The fit that decides it is the hole pattern: this one is 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle spindle and the cylinder hole, with the cylinder position below the handle. Measure that dimension on your existing trim before ordering. If it does not measure 3-5/8 inch below the handle, you need a different door configuration, not a different finish.
3) Is the Emtek 11A3 keyed from the outside, or is it a non-keyed patio trim?
Non-keyed. The 11A3 has a thumbturn on the interior and no key cylinder, so it throws and retracts the multi point points from inside only. That makes it the right choice for a patio door that is not an entry point you lock behind you, or for the inactive leaf of a pair. If you need to key the door from outside, you want the keyed version of this trim in the same configuration instead.
4) What do I have to specify when ordering Emtek multi point lock trim?
Three things beyond finish. Lever style, which is required and runs from the Modern L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar families (Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled, White Marble) through the named levers like Athena, Luzern, Poseidon, Milano and Wembley. Handing, right hand or left hand, also required. And your door thickness, which is a free text entry on the order. Get the handing wrong on a multi point and the thumbturn ends up on the wrong side of the door.
5) Why does handing matter on Emtek 11A3 multi point trim if levers are usually reversible?
Because this trim is built handed, not field-reversible. You pick Right Hand or Left Hand at order time. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand. Getting it wrong means the lever and the interior thumbturn land in the wrong orientation on a plate that is 1-1/2 by 11 inches and drilled for that hand.
6) What size are the plates on the Emtek 11A3, and will they cover my old patio door trim?
The plates measure 1-1/2 by 11 inches in a flat Modern profile. That is a narrow plate, so it suits a patio door stile but will not hide a larger footprint left behind by a wider escutcheon. If you are replacing existing Emtek Configuration #1 trim, the 3-5/8 inch center-to-center spacing carries over and the holes line up.
7) Do the levers on Emtek multi point trim sag over time?
Not on current production. Emtek multi point lock trim now ships with a Spring Assist function that returns the lever to neutral and stops the handle drooping, which was the common complaint on older multi point trim where the gearbox spring carried the lever weight. Worth knowing if you are replacing sagging handles on an existing patio door rather than doing new work.
8) Is Emtek 11A3 trim rated for a commercial opening or apartment corridor use?
Residential. Emtek classes this multi point trim as residential hardware, so for a commercial entrance or a high-traffic institutional opening you should be specifying a graded commercial lockset rather than patio door multi point trim. For single-family, condo and multi-family patio doors it is on-spec.
9) Can I mix an Emtek lever style from another collection onto this multi point trim?
Any Emtek brass lever works with it. The 11A3 plate is brass and the lever selection spans the Modern bar levers, the cast named levers such as Hermes, Stuttgart and Geneva, and traditional shapes like Rope, Ribbon and Reed, Rustic and Santa Fe. That is how you match a patio door back to the interior door levers already in the house.
10) What finishes does the Emtek 11A3 multi point trim come in?
Seven: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Nickel Lifetime (US14), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). Everything is solid brass, plate and lever both, so if you are matching other Emtek brass hardware elsewhere in the house the finish codes line up across the line. Note that Unlacquered Brass is a living finish and will patina.
11) What cylinder does Emtek multi point lock trim take?
American style, which on the 11A3 matters mainly as a family reference since this version is non-keyed and takes no cylinder at all. If you are keying a set of patio doors and want them on the same key as the rest of the house, order the keyed Configuration #1 trim, which uses the American cylinder format and locates it below the handle.
12) Is the Emtek 11A3 an electronic or smart lock?
No electronics. It is mechanical trim with a manual interior thumbturn, no motor, no keypad, no battery. Power outages are a non-issue and there is nothing to pair. If a client is asking for keypad or app entry on a patio door, this is not the part.
