Configuration refers to the spacing and layout of the holes through the door: on Config #4 the cylinder prep sits above the handle and the handle-to-cylinder center-to-center is 3-5/8 inches. Measure from the center of the existing handle hub to the center of the cylinder hole on your door. If that comes out at 3-5/8 inches with the cylinder up top, Config #4 is your pattern. A different spacing means a different configuration, not this trim.
3) Is the Emtek 14A3 keyed, and what operates it from inside?
The 14A3 is the non-keyed version. There is no key cylinder in the exterior plate; inside you get an American style thumbturn that throws and retracts the multi point lock. Use it on a patio door you do not need to lock from the outside with a key, a rear yard or pool door, for instance. If you need outside key access, the keyed version of this trim is the one to order instead.
4) Do I have to specify handing on the Emtek 14A3 trim?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right and it swings away from you, it is right hand. Get it wrong and the lever and thumbturn end up oriented backwards on the door. Lever style is also a required choice on this trim, and door thickness can be entered when you order.

Each of these multi point trim sets now ships with the Spring Assist function, which returns the lever to neutral and stops the droop that shows up on long lever handles after a few years of use. That was a common complaint on older patio trim and it is handled in the current production.
9) Is the Emtek 14A3 solid brass, and does it hold up outdoors?
Brass, both the material and the substrate, in the Emtek Brass collection. Brass is the standard exterior door hardware substrate for corrosion resistance. Finish choice does more for weathering than the base metal here: plated finishes such as Polished Chrome and Satin Nickel hold their appearance, while Unlacquered Brass is intentionally left bare to develop a living patina.
