Emtek 1235-MB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1235 multi point trim include the lock body, or is it handles only?
Trim only. The Emtek 1235 set gives you the plates and handles for a swinging patio door; the multi point mortise lock box is not included and has to be sourced separately. If you already have a working multi point lock in the door and just want new bronze hardware on it, this is the right kind of part. If the door has no lock in it yet, you still need the mortise lock case.
2) What does Door Configuration #2 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and how do I know my door takes it?
Configuration #2 describes where the keyed cylinder sits relative to the handle. On the 1235 the cylinder position is above the handle, with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder hole and the handle spindle. Measure your existing door prep hole spacing and cylinder location before ordering; the configuration has to match what is already bored in the door.
3) Will Emtek 1235 trim work on my Andersen or Hurd patio door?
Emtek lists BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver) and Andersen as the reference door manufacturers for this trim configuration. That points you to the right family, but the deciding factor is still the prep on your specific door: cylinder above the handle at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center, and a door between 1-3/8 and 1-3/4 inches thick.
4) This is sold as a dummy pair. Does it lock or latch at all?
No. The 1235 is a dummy function, meaning handles on both sides that do not turn a latch or operate a lock. It is not keyed and has no electronic component. Use it on the inactive leaf of a pair of patio doors, or on a door where the locking is handled elsewhere. If you need the handle to actually throw the multi point lock, you want an active (keyed or non-keyed operating) trim set instead.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1235 dummy trim?
Four choices. Finish, either Flat Black Bronze (FB) or Medium Bronze (MB). Lever style, from Medici (MD), Napoli (NA), Octagon (OCL) or Padua (PD). Handing, right or left. And your actual door thickness, which can fall anywhere from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches. Lever style and handing are both required selections, so an order without them will not build.
6) Do I have to cut new holes in the door to mount this Emtek trim?
No door prep required. The 1235 plates are surface mount, which is why they suit a retrofit on an existing swinging patio door. The plates measure 1-1/2 by 11-1/8 inches, so check that the door stile is wide enough to take an 11-1/8 inch plate cleanly.
7) Can I match Emtek 1235 trim to the bronze levers already on my other doors?
If those levers are Emtek Tuscany Bronze, yes. The 1235 plates are lost wax cast bronze in the Tuscany collection and can be ordered with any Tuscany Bronze lever, so a house standardized on that collection stays consistent across entry and patio openings. Finish choice is Flat Black Bronze or Medium Bronze.
8) Is Emtek 1235 trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is classified residential. The 1235 is swinging patio door hardware in a cast bronze decorative collection, aimed at homes and residential multi-family units rather than commercial traffic openings. For a commercial entry you should be looking at a graded commercial lockset instead.
9) If I later add a keyed cylinder, what type does this Emtek trim take?
The 1235 uses an American cylinder classification with the cylinder positioned above the handle. Worth knowing when you are matching the trim to a multi point lock case and planning keying across the house, since a European profile cylinder will not suit this configuration.
