Emtek 1283-US15 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door manufacturers does the Emtek 1283 Concord trim fit?
Emtek references this configuration against BiltBest, G-U, Hurd (Energy Saver) and Andersen multi point doors. The controlling numbers are Door Configuration #2 with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder hole and the handle spindle, and the cylinder sitting above the handle. Measure your existing door prep to that 3-5/8 inch dimension before ordering, because configuration, not brand name, is what decides whether the plate lines up.
2) Is there a keyed cylinder on the Emtek 1283, or just a thumbturn?
Non-keyed. The 1283 has a thumbturn on the inside and no key cylinder, so it throws and retracts the multi point points from indoors only. The plate is still prepped for an American style cylinder above the handle, so it is the pattern used on keyed versions of the same Concord plate. For a patio door that also has to lock from the outside with a key, you want the keyed version of this trim rather than this one.
3) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek Concord multi point trim?
Yes, and it is required at order time. The 1283 is built as Right Hand or Left Hand and cannot be flipped in the field, so a wrong call means a return. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it is right hand. You also pick the lever style and can enter your door thickness on the order.
4) I have a multi point door where the key cylinder sits below the handle. Will the Emtek 1283 work?
No. The 1283 is a Configuration #2 plate with the cylinder above the handle at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center. A door prepped with the cylinder below the handle is a different configuration and the holes will not line up. Match the Emtek configuration number to your door prep, or take the two measurements off the door (cylinder hole to spindle, and which is on top) and order the trim that matches.
5) What finishes does the Emtek Concord 1283 multi point trim come in?
Eight finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and French Antique (US7). If you are matching other openings in the house, note that US3NL unlacquered brass is a living finish that will darken with handling, while US3 lifetime polished brass is coated to hold its appearance. Pick one or the other across the whole set, not a mix.
6) Will the Emtek 1283 plate cover the marks left by my old patio door handle?
The Concord plate measures 2 by 10-1/2 inches in brass. That is a long, narrow escutcheon, so it covers a tall footprint but only a 2 inch width. If your existing trim is wider than 2 inches, its outline and any screw holes outside that band will show. Check the width of what is coming off the door first.
7) Can I pick which lever goes on the Emtek Concord multi point trim?
Lever style is a required choice and the range is wide: the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar bar levers in Faceted, Hammered, Knurled, Tribeca, Straight Knurled and White Marble, plus cast levers including Athena, Helios, Hermes, Luzern, Poseidon, Stuttgart, Argos, Aston, Basel, Breslin, Dumont, Freestone, Geneva, Hercules, Mercury, Myles, Sion, Spencer, Triton, Cortina, Manning, Milano, Merrimack, Turino, Coventry, Elan, Ribbon and Reed, Rope, Rustic, Santa Fe, Wembley, Arts and Crafts and Hammered. Any brass lever in the line can be ordered on it, which is how you match the patio door to the entry and interior levers already in the house.
8) Why do multi point patio door levers sag, and does the Emtek 1283 fix it?
Sagging comes from the lever's own weight with nothing returning it to horizontal, which is common on tall patio door handles. The 1283 trim ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral and stops the droop. If you are replacing a set that has drooped, the spring assist is in the new trim rather than something you add.
9) Is Emtek Concord multi point trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is classified residential. The Concord multi point trim is intended for swinging patio doors on homes, and it is a mechanical, non-electronic set with no access control provision. For a commercial opening that needs a graded, high-cycle device, this is the wrong shelf of product entirely.
10) Do I need to know my door thickness to order Emtek multi point trim?
Door thickness is an entry field on the order for the 1283, and it is worth filling in. The spindle and through-bolts have to span the door, so on a thicker than standard patio door slab the stock length can come up short. Measure the leaf edge and give the actual figure rather than assuming standard.
