1) Does the Emtek 1422 multi point trim include the multi point lock itself?
No. The 1422 is trim only: plates and handles for a swinging patio door. The multi point mortise lock box has to be sourced separately. If you are replacing worn handles on a door whose gearbox still works, that is exactly what this set is for. If the lock mechanism itself failed, the trim alone will not fix it.
2) What does Door Configuration #4 mean on Emtek multi point trim?
It describes where the cylinder and handle sit relative to each other on the plate, and it has to match the prep in your door and the gearbox behind it. On the 1422 the config is #4, with an American cylinder position above the handle and a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the cylinder hole and the handle spindle. Measure that dimension on your existing door before ordering; a different config will not line up with the holes already bored.
3) Will the Emtek 1422 fit my patio door brand?
Emtek lists this multi point trim against Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, JELD-WEN Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco) and Weathershield doors. Matching the door brand alone is not enough though, the configuration has to be #4 with the cylinder above the handle and 3-5/8 inch center-to-center.
4) Is the Emtek 1422 passage trim keyed, and can I lock the door with it?
It is non-keyed passage trim. No cylinder, no key, no thumbturn function on the plate itself, so the handles just operate the latch. If you need to lock the patio door from the trim, you want a keyed version of the multi point trim instead, not this one.
5) What door thickness does the Emtek 1422 multi point trim work with?
1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches, which covers standard residential patio door slabs. Backset is adjustable between 2-3/8 and 2-3/4 inches and the cross bore is 2-1/8 inches. Door thickness is an entry field on the order, so state your actual slab thickness when you place it.
6) Do I have to specify handing when ordering Emtek 1422 trim?
Yes, handing is required, right hand or left hand. Stand outside the door, and if the hinges are on your right it is a right hand door. Pick the lever style at the same time, there are ten Sandcast Bronze levers to choose from: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma.
7) What finishes does the Emtek 1422 Sandcast Bronze trim come in?
Three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) and Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). These are Sandcast Bronze collection finishes, so if you are matching other openings in the house, match to the Sandcast Bronze line rather than Emtek's brass or wrought steel finishes.
8) Will the Emtek 1422 plate cover the holes left by my old patio door handle?
The plate is the Arched style at 2 by 10 inches. Measure the existing escutcheon on your door, anything wider than 2 inches or longer than 10 will leave finish marks or exposed screw holes behind. Cross bore is 2-1/8 inches, which is the standard residential bore, so the handle hole itself normally lines up.
9) My patio door levers droop. Does Emtek's multi point trim fix sagging handles?
Spring assist is built into this trim. It returns the lever to horizontal after each use, which is the usual cure for the droop that shows up on long patio door handles after a few years of use.
10) Is the Emtek 1422 trim suitable for a commercial building?
It is residential hardware, cast in bronze for swinging patio doors in homes. For a hotel, office or apartment common-area opening that needs a graded commercial lockset, this is not the right product line.
