Emtek 1322-FB – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Does the Emtek 1322 multi point trim include the multi point lock mechanism, or just the handles and plates?
Trim only. The Emtek 1322 set includes the plates and handles, and the multi point mortise lock box is not included. You need to have the existing multi point gear in the door, or source the lock box separately, before this trim is any use on a swinging patio door.
2) What is Door Configuration #3 on Emtek multi point trim and how do I know my patio door matches?
Door Config #3 describes the layout of the holes in the door: on the 1322, the cylinder position is above the handle and the center-to-center spacing between the handle and cylinder hole is 4-1/8 inches. If your existing door prep puts the key cylinder above the lever at 4-1/8 inch center-to-center, the 1322 plates line up. A different spacing or a cylinder below the handle needs a different config number.
3) This is a passage function with a cylinder hole above the handle. Does it lock?
No. The 1322 is non-keyed passage trim, so the lever simply retracts the latch and there is no key cylinder supplied with it. The plate is still made for Config #3 geometry with a cylinder position above the handle, which is why the 4-1/8 inch center-to-center spacing applies. If you need a keyed active side on the same door, order the keyed version of the same configuration and use the 1322 on the inactive or interior leaf.
4) Will Emtek 1322 trim fit a 1-3/8 inch door, or only a full 1-3/4?
Both. The 1322 covers door thicknesses from 1-3/8 inch through 1-3/4 inch, which spans the common older interior thickness and standard exterior patio door stock. Door thickness is an entry you fill in when ordering so the spindle and screw pack match your slab.
5) Does the Emtek 1322 work on Andersen patio doors?
Andersen is the reference door manufacturer for this multi point trim, so the 1322 is built around that style of swinging patio door prep. Match it on configuration: cylinder above the handle, 4-1/8 inch center-to-center, 2-1/8 inch cross bore, and a 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inch backset.
6) Do I have to specify handing on Emtek multi point trim?
Yes, handing is required. You pick right hand or left hand when ordering, so determine the swing before you place the order. Lever style is also a required choice.
7) What backset and bore does the Emtek 1322 need in the door?
The 1322 uses a 2-1/8 inch cross bore and an adjustable backset that sets to either 2-3/8 or 2-3/4 inches, the two standard backsets, so it drops onto either common prep without redrilling. The latch faceplate can be had round corner or square corner to match the existing mortise in the edge of the door.
8) Which levers and finishes can I get on the Emtek 1322 arched plate?
The plate measures 2 x 10 inches in the arched style and comes in three sandcast bronze finishes: Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, and Tumbled White Bronze. Ten sandcast bronze levers pair with it: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, and Yuma.
9) My old patio door levers sag. Does this Emtek trim fix that?
It addresses it directly. Every Emtek multi point lock trim now ships with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the drooping handle you get on worn patio hardware. Useful if you are refreshing a run of units and tired of callbacks on sagging levers.
10) Is the Emtek 1322 suitable for a commercial entrance?
It is classified residential hardware, part of the Sandcast Bronze collection in a rustic aesthetic, and it is mechanical rather than electronic. For apartment or single family patio doors it is on point; for a commercial entry under a hardware schedule you want graded commercial trim instead.
11) What material are the Emtek 1322 plates, and will the finish hold up outdoors?
The plates and levers are sandcast bronze, with the underlying trim material listed as brass. Sandcast bronze is a solid, heavy casting rather than a plated stamping, and the three finishes are living bronze finishes that darken and mellow with handling and weather rather than flaking.
12) If I order the keyed version of this configuration, what cylinder does it take?
Emtek multi point trim in this family uses an American standard cylinder, mounted above the handle. The 1322 itself is the non-keyed passage trim, so no cylinder goes into it, but that classification is what you match if you are keying the active leaf of the same door to an existing system.
