Emtek 1423-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Emtek 1423 trim fit my patio door's existing multi point lock?
It is built for Door Configuration #4 with a 3-5/8 inch center-to-center between the handle and the cylinder hole, cylinder above the handle, American style cylinder prep. Match those three things to your door's existing prep. Emtek references this trim against multi point doors from Ashland, G-U, Caradco, JELD-WEN, JELD-WEN Custom Collection (formerly Pozzi), Marvin, PGT, Premium Collection (formerly Norco) and Weathershield.
2) Is the Emtek 1423 keyed from the outside?
No, it is the non-keyed version: thumbturn on the interior, no key cylinder. Locking and unlocking happens from inside only. If you need to key the door from the exterior, choose the keyed version of the same configuration instead.
3) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1423 arched trim?
Three choices are on the order. Finish: Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze, or Tumbled White Bronze. Lever style, from ten Sandcast Bronze levers: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton, Yuma. And handing, right or left. Door thickness can also be entered. Handing and lever are both required, so neither can be left blank.
4) Why does handing matter on a multi point lock trim?
A swinging patio door trim set carries the lever and thumbturn on specific sides, so right hand and left hand are not interchangeable. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right it is right hand. Getting it wrong means the lever throws the wrong way against the gear, and the set has to go back.
5) How big are the Emtek 1423 plates, and will they cover my old trim?
The arched plates measure 2 x 10 inches. That is a narrow escutcheon, so on a replacement it covers the handle and cylinder holes but will not hide a wider previous plate's screw holes or finish shadow. Compare against what is on the door before pulling the old set.
6) Do the Emtek Sandcast Bronze levers sag over time?
Each of these multi point trim sets now includes a Spring Assist function that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the drooping handle you see on older patio door trim. Nothing extra to order for it.
7) Is the Emtek 1423 trim rated for a commercial entrance?
It is a residential product, part of Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection for swinging patio doors. For an apartment community or a light commercial patio opening it is a finish and style decision, not a duty-rated one, so specify it where residential-grade hardware is acceptable.
8) Can I match Emtek 1423 trim to other Sandcast Bronze hardware in the house?
Yes. It is solid bronze from Emtek's Sandcast Bronze collection and takes any Sandcast Bronze lever, so patio door trim, interior levers and entry sets can run the same lever design and the same finish. Pick one of Flat Black Bronze, Medium Bronze or Tumbled White Bronze and carry it through.
