Emtek 1323-FB – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Does the Emtek 1323 multi point trim include the multi point mortise lock body?
No. The 1323 is trim only: plates and handles. The multi point mortise lock box has to be supplied separately, either the one already in the door or ordered on its own. If your patio door still has a working multi point lock and you only want to change the look of the handles, this is the right part. If the lock mechanism itself is bad, the trim alone won't fix it.
2) What does Door Configuration #3 mean on Emtek multi point trim, and how do I know it matches my door?
Configuration refers to how the lock prep is laid out on the door leaf. The 1323 is built for Configuration #3, with a 4-1/8 inch center-to-center between the handle and the cylinder hole, and the cylinder position above the handle. Measure your existing door from the spindle hole to the cylinder hole. If that comes out at 4-1/8 inches with the keyhole up top, this trim lines up. A different spacing means a different Emtek configuration number.
3) If the 1323 is non-keyed, how does the door lock from the inside?
The inside side uses a thumbturn rather than a key cylinder, so you throw and retract the multi point lock from inside without a key. The exterior side is prepped for an American style cylinder above the handle, which you supply to match your keying. That setup suits a swinging patio door where you want keyed entry outside and quick thumbturn operation inside.
4) Will this Emtek trim work on an Andersen patio door?
Andersen is the referenced door manufacturer for this trim, so it is intended for Andersen swinging patio door multi point prep in Configuration #3. Confirm your leaf measures 4-1/8 inches between the handle and cylinder holes with the cylinder above the handle before ordering.
5) What do I have to specify when ordering the Emtek 1323 trim?
Four choices. Handing is required, right hand or left hand. Lever style is required, with ten Sandcast Bronze options: Aurora, Bryce, Cimarron, Cody, Durango, Lariat, Mariposa, Montrose, Teton and Yuma. Finish is a choice of three: Flat Black Bronze (FB), Medium Bronze (MB) or Tumbled White Bronze (TWB). Door thickness is an optional entry, so give it if your door is anything other than standard.
6) Do the sagging handles on my old patio door trim get fixed by this?
Yes, that is one reason to change the trim. Every current Emtek multi point trim set, including the 1323, is built with a spring assist that returns the lever to neutral, which is what stops the droop you get once the old spring cage wears out.
7) How big are the 1323 plates, and will they cover the marks left by my old trim?
The escutcheon plates measure 2 x 10 inches in an arched profile. Whether they hide old fastener holes or finish shadow depends on what came off the door, so compare against your existing plate footprint. Anything wider than 2 inches at the plate is going to show.
8) Is this Emtek Sandcast Bronze trim suitable for a commercial building entrance?
It is classified as residential hardware. Sandcast bronze multi point trim like the 1323 is made for swinging patio doors on homes, and the finishes are living finishes that change with handling and weather. For a commercial entry with heavy traffic and code requirements, specify commercial grade hardware instead.
9) Can I mix a lever from another Emtek collection with these plates?
The 1323 accepts any Emtek Sandcast Bronze lever, so you can pair the arched plates with any of the ten sandcast levers offered. Stay within Sandcast Bronze so material and finish match across the set; levers from Emtek's other collections are not the pairing this trim is built around.
10) Is the 1323 an electronic or smart lock trim?
No, it is fully mechanical. There is no keypad, no motor and no wiring, so no power or connectivity is involved. Operation is the exterior lever with a cylinder above it and a thumbturn on the inside.
