Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled Monolithic Mortise Entrance Handleset, Brass - Dummy

  • Can be ordered with any Brass Knob or Lever for the inside trim
  • Sold as complete set
  • Handing required for All Mortise Locks

This Mortise Lock Handleset is available in 3 Functions:

Single Cylinder Mortise Sideplates are locked/unlocked with a key from the exterior and locked/unlocked from the inside of the home with a thumbturn.

  • The F20 Function Mortise box has buttons on the edge of the door that allow you to set the box to lock behind you as you leave the home, or another button to keep the door unlocked. This button setting is reset each time the door is locked.
  • The F13 Function Mortise Box does not have the buttons on the edge of the box. This set will only lock when activated with a key outside or thumbturn inside.

Dummy: If you have a double front door where one side is generally inactive while the other is always active, you will need a combination of two sideplate locks. For the active side, you'll need a single cylinder sideplate. For the inactive door, you'll want to order a dummy sideplate. This gives you the look of a complete working set, but doesn't have all of the mechanisms - perfect for an inactive door.

Emtek 3037-RH-US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What does the dummy version of the Emtek 3037 Hercules handleset actually do on a door?
It is trim only. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled dummy handleset gives you the full look of the working mortise set, but there's no latch, no cylinder and no operating mechanism behind it. Its job is the inactive leaf of a double front door: you run a single cylinder mortise sideplate on the active leaf and the dummy on the leaf that stays shut, so both sides match. If the door has to latch or lock, this is the wrong function.
2) Do I still have to specify handing on a dummy mortise handleset?
Yes, and getting it wrong means the set sits on the door backwards. Emtek requires handing on all mortise sideplates, and the 3037 is ordered as either Left Hand (in-swing door) or Right Hand (in-swing door). On a double door the dummy leaf is the opposite hand from the active leaf, so order the pair together.
3) Will the Emtek 3037 dummy sideplate fit my 1-3/4 inch door, and what if my door is thicker?
1-3/4 inch is the standard door thickness for these Emtek brass mortise entrance sets, which is what most exterior doors run. Thicker doors are handled to order, so state the actual thickness when you place the order and the set is built to it. The prep is standard mortise ANSI A115.1 with a 2-1/2 or 2-3/4 inch backset.
4) What do I have to pick for the interior side of the Emtek 3037 handleset?
An inside knob or lever is a required selection, not an upsell. The set ships complete with whichever brass knob or lever you choose, and the list runs from contemporary shapes like the Ace Knurled Knob, Spoke Knob and the L-Square, T-Bar and R-Bar knurled and faceted grips through traditional Rope, Ribbon and Reed, Victoria and Providence patterns, plus crystal options like Windsor and Modern Square. On a dummy leaf the inside trim is decorative, so most people simply mirror whatever they chose on the active door.
5) What other dummy handlesets can I use on the inactive leaf of a double door if the Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is not the right look?
Two other dummy-function handlesets serve the same inactive-leaf role. The Weslock 2815 Hillcrest Dummy Handleset comes with a New Heaven lever and covers doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch thick, and the Weslock 6695 Belmont Dummy Handleset comes with an Impresa knob over the same 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch range. The Emtek 3037 differs in construction: it is a monolithic mortise sideplate in solid brass, prepped for standard mortise ANSI A115.1, with handing specified left or right, while the Weslock dummies are tubular-style sets. Because the 3037 is dummy function, it carries no cylinder and no latching mechanism regardless.
6) I need the keyed active leaf to pair with an Emtek 3037 dummy on the inactive door. What mortise trim options are there?
For the active leaf, Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont mortise trim is offered in both a single cylinder entry version and a double cylinder entry version, both for 1-3/4 inch doors. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is the dummy counterpart and uses a 1-3/4 inch door thickness as standard as well, with thicker doors specified at order. Note the Emtek is a monolithic brass sideplate cut for standard mortise ANSI A115.1 prep with handing required, so if you mix brands across the two leaves the sideplate appearance will not match; matching within one brand is the usual approach for a double front door.
7) Is a Schlage JE285 Barcelona non-keyed handleset a substitute for the Emtek 3037 dummy?
They are not the same thing. The Schlage Residential JE285 Barcelona with Seville lever is listed as a non-keyed entry function, Grade 2, for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch, so it still operates a latch even though it takes no key. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is dummy function, meaning it is a surface-applied look-alike with no operating mechanism, intended for the inactive leaf of a double door. A JE285 is a better fit for a single door you want to open without a key; the 3037 is for a leaf you do not intend to operate.
8) Does a dummy mortise sideplate need a mortise pocket cut in the door?
The 3037 is built on Emtek's standard mortise platform, prepped to ANSI A115.1 with a 2-1/2 or 2-3/4 inch backset, so on a new double door you prep both leaves the same way and the plates line up. There is no lock case doing any work on the dummy leaf, but the sideplate geometry is the mortise geometry, which is exactly why it matches the active side visually.
9) What finishes does the Emtek Mormont 3037 handleset come in, and will they match my other Emtek brass hardware?
Six finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL) and Satin Brass (US4). All six are offered in both left and right hand. Because the 3037 is part of Emtek's Brass collection, these are the same finish codes used across the brass knobs and levers, so the dummy leaf, the active leaf and the interior trim can all be specified alike. Note that Unlacquered Brass is a living finish and will patina with time.
10) Is the Emtek 3037 mortise handleset fire rated?
The Emtek brass UL mortise entrance handleset platform carries a UL 180 minute fire rating, and the working sideplates are offered in ANSI F20 or F13 function. Keep in mind the 3037 in dummy form has no latching mechanism, so on a rated opening the fire-rated hardware duty falls on the active leaf.
11) What's the difference between the F20 and F13 mortise boxes when I order the active door to go with this?
Both are single cylinder: key outside, thumbturn inside. The F20 box adds buttons on the door edge that let you set it to lock behind you as you leave, or hold it unlocked, and the setting resets each time the door is locked. The F13 box has no edge buttons at all, so it only locks when you turn the key or the thumbturn. If nobody in the house wants to think about button states, order F13.
12) What keyway does the Emtek mortise entrance handleset use if I want it keyed alike with my other doors?
Schlage C is the keyway on Emtek's brass mortise entrance sets, which is the most common residential keyway in the US and makes keying alike with existing Schlage-keyed cylinders straightforward for a locksmith. That applies to the keyed sideplates; the 3037 dummy is non-keyed and takes no cylinder.
13) Are there other dummy handlesets besides the Emtek 3037 if I need a wider door thickness range?
The Emtek 3037 is a mortise dummy built for 1-3/4 inch doors as standard. If you need a bore-through tubular style dummy with a broader thickness range, the Weslock 2815 Hillcrest dummy handleset with New Heaven lever and the Weslock 6695 Belmont dummy handleset with Impresa knob both list 1-3/8 to 2 inch. They are different prep entirely, so pick based on how the active leaf is prepped.
14) I want a mortise entry set for a single door, not a double. What should I be looking at?
On a single door you want a working single cylinder mortise sideplate in F20 or F13, not the dummy. For mortise trim from other brands, the Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont is offered in single cylinder and double cylinder entry mortise trim, both listed for 1-3/4 inch doors. If the door is prepped for a tubular latch and deadbolt rather than a mortise pocket, a handleset like the Schlage Residential F60 Addison (1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch) is the right family instead.
15) For a rental or commercial opening, is the Emtek 3037 the right pick or should I look at a graded handleset?
The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is classified for residential use and is dummy function, so it carries no latching duty. If you need a graded set on a working door, the Schlage Residential F60 Addison single cylinder keyed entry with Accent lever is Grade 2 for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Master Lock HDLB series single cylinder deadbolt handleset is also Grade 2. The Kwikset 687 Amador and 687 Belleview exterior handlesets are Grade 3 for 1-3/4 inch doors. Those are the options when the specification calls out a grade; the 3037 remains suited to a decorative inactive leaf.
16) My entry doors are thicker than 1-3/4 inch. What handlesets cover that?
The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is built to 1-3/4 inch as standard with thicker doors specified at time of order. If you would rather use a set that publishes a thicker range up front, the Weslock 1411 Traditionale Colonial handleset with Eleganti knob covers 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch as a single cylinder keyed entry. Keep in mind the Weslock is a keyed entry set, while the 3037 is dummy function for an inactive leaf, so they are not interchangeable in the same opening.
17) What is a simpler alternative to the Emtek 3037 if I do not want to deal with mortise prep and handing?
Tubular handlesets avoid the mortise pocket entirely. The Sure-Loc Alta is a tubular handleset with adjustable backset, and the Sure-Loc Aspen, Coral and Madison are handlesets with adjustable backset as well, so the backset is set in the field rather than specified at order. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is a monolithic mortise sideplate requiring standard mortise ANSI A115.1 prep, a 2-1/2 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset chosen at order, and left or right handing declared. The tradeoff is form factor: the 3037 is a full brass sideplate for a mortise pocket, the Sure-Loc sets mount to bored holes.
18) Can I put an electronic handleset where the Emtek 3037 goes?
Not on the leaf the 3037 serves. Electronic sets such as the Yale Real Living BYRD226CBARX Assure Lock Wi-Fi and Bluetooth touchscreen deadbolt with Ridgefield handleset and the BYRD226NRRX standalone touchscreen version cover 1-3/4 inch to 2-1/4 inch doors, and the Kwikset 815SCEHFL-CP913CNT San Clemente handleset pairs a Halifax lever with a contemporary SmartCode keypad deadbolt for 1-3/4 inch doors. All of those are active, powered openings. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is non-electronic and dummy function, meant for the inactive leaf where no bolt throws. An electronic set belongs on the active leaf instead.
19) The Emtek 3037 uses a Schlage C keyway. Which comparable handlesets match that keying?
The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled family is cut to Schlage C, though the 3037 itself is a dummy and takes no cylinder. If you are keying an active leaf to the same system, the Kwikset 687AMD SMC Amador single cylinder handleset is offered with an SC1 keyway and SmartKey, a Grade 3 exterior-only set for 1-3/4 inch doors. The companion Kwikset 687AMD SMT Amador and 687BW SMT Belleview are the SmartKey versions at the same Grade 3 and 1-3/4 inch thickness. The Kwikset sets are tubular exterior trim rather than mortise sideplates, so the door prep differs from the Emtek.
20) What solid brass handlesets compare to the Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled on material?
Deltana offers several solid brass entry handlesets: the 803871B Hanover, the 815871 St. Ann and the 825871 Kingston, all entry function, plus the 810871 Montego for doors 1-3/8 inch to 2 inch. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is also brass, in a contemporary knurled style, and is dummy function on a monolithic mortise sideplate with handing specified left or right. So the Deltana sets are the brass choice when you need a working entry, and the 3037 is the brass choice for the leaf that stays shut.
21) Is the Emtek Hercules Knurled handleset solid brass or plated?
Brass through the substrate, not a plated zinc casting. The Mormont series sideplate and the knurled Hercules grip are brass, then finished in one of the six available plated or living finishes. That matters on an exterior front door where the hardware sees weather and handling.
22) Does the Emtek 3037 dummy handleset need power or wiring?
No. It is a mechanical trim set with no electronics at all, and in dummy form it has no moving lock parts either. If you want a keypad or app-controlled front door, that is a different product entirely, such as the Yale Assure Lock touchscreen deadbolts with the Ridgefield handleset, which list for 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors, or the Kwikset 815 San Clemente handleset with a SmartCode electronic deadbolt at 1-3/4 inch.
23) What handleset and knob combinations are available if I want the exterior grip and interior knob matched from the factory rather than configured?
Baldwin sells the Wesley handleset as fixed pairings: the 180WYHXATK comes with the Alcott knob and the 180WYHXCYK with the Carnaby knob, both entrance function. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled works the other way around, sold as a complete set where you pick the inside brass knob or lever from the Emtek trim range, which includes options such as the Ace Knob, the Hercules Lever and the Spoke Knob. If you want one part number that ships a set combination, the Baldwin pairings do that; if you want to match the interior trim to the rest of the house, the 3037 gives you the selection.
24) Is a Pamex Lexington handleset a workable alternative to the Emtek 3037?
The Pamex FS7P31 Lexington is a single cylinder entry handleset in a satin nickel finish for doors 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch. It is an operating keyed set, while the Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is dummy function and offers satin nickel US15 among its finishes along with oil rubbed bronze US10B, flat black US19, polished chrome US26, unlacquered brass US3NL and satin brass US4. If you need a working exterior handleset in satin nickel the Lexington fits; if you are dressing an inactive leaf the 3037 is the correct function.
25) I have a single door with a separate deadbolt above the lever. Is the Emtek 3037 what I want?
No. That arrangement is an interconnected or two-point setup, and the Schlage Residential JI18/19 covers it with an interconnected passage lock, keyed deadbolt and Torino lever, Grade 2, for 1-3/8 inch to 1-3/4 inch doors. The Emtek 3037 Hercules Knurled is a single monolithic mortise sideplate in dummy function, with the exterior grip and trim on one plate and no bolt work behind it. The two address different openings.
