Emtek 3337 Hercules Knurled Monolithic Mortise Entrance Handleset, Brass - Entryset

  • Can be ordered with any Brass Knob or Lever for the inside trim
  • Sold as complete set. Includes Latch and Strike Plate
  • 2-1/2" or 2-3/4" Backsets
  • Standard Mortise Door Prep ANSI A115.1
  • UL Listed Mortise with ANSI F20 or F13 Function
  • Schlage C Keyway
  • Handing required for All Mortise Locks

NOTE: This Mortise Handleset is designed to be used with doors prepped for a Mortise Lock, these will NOT work with a standard tubular latch prepped door. Please see the measurements tab for more information on preparing your door for a mortise lock.

Keying Alike

  • Order multiple locks on your order re-keyed to the same code by indicating "Keyed Alike" next to applicable locks
  • Note: Locks must use the same keyway to be Keyed Alike (ex: locks using a Schlage C Keyway cannot use the same key as Kwikset)

Keying to Code

  • Order by indicating "Key Code XXXXX" next to applicable locks
  • If ordering multiple groups (houses) indicate "Keyed Alike Group #_" next to applicable locks in Key Code field for each lock

This Mortise Lock Handleset is available in 3 Functions:

Single Cylinder Mortise Sideplates are locked/unlocked with a key from the exterior and locked/unlocked from the inside of the home with a thumbturn.

  • The F20 Function Mortise box has buttons on the edge of the door that allow you to set the box to lock behind you as you leave the home, or another button to keep the door unlocked. This button setting is reset each time the door is locked.
  • The F13 Function Mortise Box does not have the buttons on the edge of the box. This set will only lock when activated with a key outside or thumbturn inside.

Dummy: If you have a double front door where one side is generally inactive while the other is always active, you will need a combination of two sideplate locks. For the active side, you'll need a single cylinder sideplate. For the inactive door, you'll want to order a dummy sideplate. This gives you the look of a complete working set, but doesn't have all of the mechanisms - perfect for an inactive door.

Emtek Mortise Handlesets include:

  • Large handleset for the exterior side of the door.
  • Interior lever or knob style and backplate for the interior side.
  • Mortise lock box with mounting hardware and faceplate.
  • Strike plate for door jamb.
  • Other required mounting screws or hardware.

Warranty

Emtek covers it's door hardware with a 5 yr finish and mechanical warranty. Living finishes are not covered under this warranty as they are designed to change over time. For more information see Emtek Door Hardware Warranty.

Emtek F20-3337-75-RH-US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Emtek 3337 Hercules Knurled handleset work on a door prepped for a standard tubular latch?
No. The 3337 Hercules Knurled is a mortise handleset and needs a door mortised for a mortise lock body, cut to standard ANSI A115.1 mortise prep. A door bored for a tubular latch and deadbolt cannot take it without re-prepping the edge of the door. If your existing door is tubular-bored, look at a tubular handleset instead, such as the Sure-Loc Alta or a Weslock Hillcrest single cylinder set.
2) What is the difference between the F20 and F13 function on the Emtek Mormont mortise handleset?
F20 Entrance has push buttons on the edge of the door. One button sets the lock to latch behind you when you leave, the other holds it unlocked, and the setting resets each time the door is locked with the key or thumbturn. F13 Dormitory has no edge buttons at all, so it only locks when you turn the key outside or the thumbturn inside. If you want the door to be able to lock itself behind you, take F20. If you want a door that can never lock accidentally, take F13.
3) Do I have to specify handing on the Emtek 3337 mortise handleset?
Yes, and it's not optional on any mortise lock. You pick from left hand in-swing, left hand out-swing, right hand in-swing, or right hand out-swing. Stand outside the door: the side the hinges are on gives you the hand, and whether the door pulls toward you or pushes away gives you the swing. Get it wrong and the latch bevel faces the wrong direction.
4) Which backset do I order for the Emtek Mormont mortise entry handleset?
Two backsets are offered, 2-1/2 inch and 2-3/4 inch. Measure from the face of the door edge to the center of the existing mortise pocket cylinder hole. Most residential mortise preps run 2-1/2 inch; 2-3/4 inch shows up on heavier or commercial-style doors. On a new door you pick whichever your prep is being cut to, but the backset has to match the pocket or the trim holes won't line up.
5) Will the Emtek 3337 handleset fit a door thicker than 1-3/4 inches?
1-3/4 inch is the standard build for this Emtek mortise entrance handleset, and there is a door thickness field on the order so you can call out a thicker door. Emtek assembles to the thickness you specify, so measure the actual door and state it when you order rather than assuming the stock spindle and screw lengths will reach.
6) Can I key the Emtek 3337 to match the other Schlage-keyed locks in the house?
The lock uses a Schlage C keyway, so it can be keyed alike with other locks on the same keyway. Order multiple locks keyed alike by marking them as such, or supply an existing key code and the locks are cut to it. Kwikset-keyway locks cannot share a key with this one. If you're running several houses or buildings on one order, note a keyed alike group number against each lock so the groups stay separate.
7) I have a double front door with one inactive leaf. What do I order?
Two sideplates. The active leaf gets the single cylinder mortise handleset, and the inactive leaf gets a dummy sideplate so the pair looks matched without duplicating the working mechanism. Ordering two live sets for a double door is the usual mistake and leaves you with a lock you can't use on the inactive leaf.
8) My door is bored for a standard tubular latch, not a mortise pocket. What entry handleset should I use instead of the Emtek 3337?
The Emtek 3337 needs a mortise-prepped door to ANSI A115.1 and will not work on a tubular bore. For a tubular prep, the Schlage Residential F60 Addison single cylinder keyed entry handleset with Accent lever is a Grade 2 entrance set listed for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Sure-Loc Alta tubular handleset has an adjustable backset. Weslock 2810 Hillcrest with Hudson knob is another single cylinder tubular option, listed for 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors.
9) Which handlesets look like a substitute for the Emtek 3337 but are not?
Several nearby handlesets differ in a way that matters. The Yale Real Living BYRD226NRRX and BYRD226CBARX pair a Ridgefield handleset with an electronic touchscreen deadbolt, and the Kwikset 815SCEHFL-CP913CNT San Clemente uses a SmartCode electronic deadbolt - the Emtek 3337 is a non-electronic mechanical set. The Kwikset 687AMD and 687BW Amador and Belleview sets are exterior trim only, not a complete set, while the Emtek 3337 ships as a complete set with latch and strike. The Weslock 6695 Belmont and Weslock 2815 Hillcrest are dummy function with no lock mechanism at all.
10) What comes in the box with the Emtek Mormont mortise entrance handleset, and what do I still need to buy?
It ships as a complete set: the exterior handleset, the interior knob or lever with its backplate, the mortise lock body with faceplate and mounting hardware, the strike plate for the jamb, and the remaining mounting screws. Keys and cylinder are included since it's a keyed single cylinder set. The only thing you choose separately is the interior trim style, which is a required selection on the order, not an add-on part.
11) What interior knob or lever can I pair with the Emtek 3337 Hercules Knurled exterior handleset?
Any Emtek brass knob or lever works as inside trim, and it's a required choice when you order. The range runs from contemporary bar-style levers like Stuttgart, Helios, and the T-Bar, L-Square, and R-Bar families in faceted, hammered, knurled, Tribeca, straight knurled, and white marble, through traditional levers like Cortina, Milano, and Rope, to knobs including Orb, Round, Egg, Providence, and crystal options such as Bristol, Windsor, and Georgetown. If you want the inside to echo the knurled exterior, the Hercules Lever, Ace Knurled Knob, or a knurled T-Bar or L-Square are the closest match.
12) How does the Emtek 3337 mortise handleset compare to a Baldwin or Schlage entry handleset?
The closest thing in kind is the Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont, which is also mortise entry trim and is listed for 1-3/4 inch doors, available single or double cylinder. Schlage Residential's F60 Addison with Accent lever is a different animal: Grade 2, tubular, and fitting 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, so it goes into a bored door rather than a mortised one. Emtek's 3337 sits with the Baldwin on prep, and separates itself on the interior trim choice, since you pick any Emtek brass knob or lever for the inside.
13) I need a double cylinder mortise entry instead of the single cylinder Emtek 3337. What are my options?
The Emtek 3337 Hercules Knurled handleset is a single cylinder set - keyed outside, thumbturn inside. For a keyed cylinder on both sides in mortise trim, the Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont double cylinder entry mortise trim is the double cylinder counterpart to the Baldwin 6542 single cylinder version, both listed for 1-3/4 inch doors.
14) What is a simpler solid brass entry handleset than the Emtek 3337 if I do not need mortise?
Deltana offers several solid brass entry handlesets: the 803871B Hanover, the 815871 St. Ann, and the 825871 Kingston, all entry function in solid brass. The Emtek 3337 is also brass but is a mortise set requiring an ANSI A115.1 mortise pocket, handing specified at order, and a Schlage C keyway, with the inside trim chosen from the knob and lever range.
15) My door is thicker or thinner than 1-3/4 inch. How does the Emtek 3337 compare to other handlesets on door thickness?
The Emtek 3337 is built for 1-3/4 inch doors as standard, with a door thickness field at order so a thicker door can be specified. Among peers with a published range, the Deltana 810871 Montego covers 1-3/8 to 2 inch, the Weslock 2810 Hillcrest covers 1-3/8 to 2 inch, the Weslock 1411 Traditionale Colonial covers 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch, and the Pamex FS7P31 Lexington covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch.
16) I want the handleset look on an inactive door of a double entry. What pairs with an Emtek 3337?
For the inactive leaf you want a dummy set so the pair matches visually without a working mechanism. Emtek offers a dummy sideplate to pair with the single cylinder 3337 on the active leaf. On the tubular side, the Weslock 6695 Belmont dummy handleset with Impresa knob and the Weslock 2815 Hillcrest dummy handleset with New Heaven lever are dummy function handlesets, both listed for 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors.
17) How does the Emtek 3337 compare with handlesets that use SmartKey or a Schlage C keyway?
The Emtek 3337 uses a Schlage C keyway, and sets can be keyed alike or keyed to a code at order as long as they share that keyway. The Kwikset 687AMD SMC Amador uses an SC1 keyway with SmartKey, while the Kwikset 687AMD SMT and 687BW SMT Belleview use SmartKey, all Grade 3 entrance sets for 1-3/4 inch doors. Keyways must match for locks to key alike, so mixing SmartKey and Schlage C cylinders on one key will not work.
18) My backset is not a fixed 2-1/2 or 2-3/4 inch. What handleset handles a variable backset better than the Emtek 3337?
The Emtek 3337 is ordered to a fixed backset of 2-1/2 inch or 2-3/4 inch, matched to the mortise prep. If you need flexibility on a tubular door, the Sure-Loc Aspen AN507 single cylinder keyed entry handleset, Madison MA507 keyed entry handleset, Coral CR507, and Alta AT507 all have an adjustable backset.
19) Does the Emtek 3337 need handing specified when other handlesets do not?
Yes. Handing is required on the Emtek 3337 and is ordered as left or right hand in either an in-swing or out-swing configuration, which is standard for mortise locks. Tubular peers such as the Schlage F60 Addison keyed entry handleset and the Sure-Loc Aspen AN507 keyed entry handleset with adjustable backset are ordered without that handing selection, so confirm the swing before placing a mortise order.
20) For a fire-rated residential entry, how does the Emtek 3337 compare to nearby handlesets?
The Emtek 3337 uses a UL listed mortise lock with a UL 180 minute fire rating and standard ANSI A115.1 mortise prep. Among the tubular peers, grade is the stated measure rather than a fire rating: the Schlage F60 Addison and JE285 are Grade 2, the Master Lock HDLB series single cylinder deadbolt handleset is Grade 2, and the Kwikset 687AMD and 687BW are Grade 3.
21) Is the Emtek 3337 handleset rated for commercial use?
Emtek classes it as residential hardware, brass construction, in a contemporary style. It's a front-door and high-end residential entry product. For a commercial opening on a maintenance program you'd normally want a Grade 1 or Grade 2 commercial mortise lock; among lighter-duty handlesets we carry, the Master Lock HDLB Series is listed as Grade 2 and the Schlage F60 as Grade 2.
22) What finishes does the Emtek Mormont 3337 brass handleset come in, and do any of them change over time?
Six finishes: Flat Black (US19), Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Chrome (US26), Satin Brass (US4), Satin Nickel (US15), and Unlacquered Brass (US3NL). Unlacquered brass is a living finish, so it patinas with handling and weather rather than staying bright, which is the point of it on a front door. If you want the exterior to stay as delivered, go with one of the plated or coated finishes instead.
23) Is there a non-keyed handleset alternative if the Emtek 3337 entry function is more than the opening needs?
The Emtek 3337 is a keyed entry set, single cylinder, in F20 entrance or F13 dormitory function. If the opening does not need a key, the Schlage Residential JE285 Barcelona style handleset with Seville lever is a non-keyed entry function Grade 2 set for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. Where a separate deadbolt handles the security, the Schlage JI18/19 interconnected passage lock with keyed deadbolt and Torino lever is Grade 2 for the same thickness range.
