Emtek 3335 Hercules Smooth Monolithic Mortise Entrance Handleset, Brass - Entryset 3335

  • Can be ordered with any Brass Knob or Lever for the inside trim
  • Sold as complete set. Includes Latch and Strike Plate
  • 2-1/2" or 2-3/4" Backsets
  • Standard Mortise Door Prep ANSI A115.1
  • UL Listed Mortise with ANSI F20 or F13 Function
  • Schlage C Keyway
  • Handing required for All Mortise Locks

NOTE: This Mortise Handleset is designed to be used with doors prepped for a Mortise Lock, these will NOT work with a standard tubular latch prepped door. Please see the measurements tab for more information on preparing your door for a mortise lock.

Keying Alike

  • Order multiple locks on your order re-keyed to the same code by indicating "Keyed Alike" next to applicable locks
  • Note: Locks must use the same keyway to be Keyed Alike (ex: locks using a Schlage C Keyway cannot use the same key as Kwikset)

Keying to Code

  • Order by indicating "Key Code XXXXX" next to applicable locks
  • If ordering multiple groups (houses) indicate "Keyed Alike Group #_" next to applicable locks in Key Code field for each lock

This Mortise Lock Handleset is available in 3 Functions:

Single Cylinder Mortise Sideplates are locked/unlocked with a key from the exterior and locked/unlocked from the inside of the home with a thumbturn.

  • The F20 Function Mortise box has buttons on the edge of the door that allow you to set the box to lock behind you as you leave the home, or another button to keep the door unlocked. This button setting is reset each time the door is locked.
  • The F13 Function Mortise Box does not have the buttons on the edge of the box. This set will only lock when activated with a key outside or thumbturn inside.

Dummy: If you have a double front door where one side is generally inactive while the other is always active, you will need a combination of two sideplate locks. For the active side, you'll need a single cylinder sideplate. For the inactive door, you'll want to order a dummy sideplate. This gives you the look of a complete working set, but doesn't have all of the mechanisms - perfect for an inactive door.

Emtek Mortise Handlesets include:

  • Large handleset for the exterior side of the door.
  • Interior lever or knob style and backplate for the interior side.
  • Mortise lock box with mounting hardware and faceplate.
  • Strike plate for door jamb.
  • Other required mounting screws or hardware.

Warranty

Emtek covers it's door hardware with a 5 yr finish and mechanical warranty. Living finishes are not covered under this warranty as they are designed to change over time. For more information see Emtek Door Hardware Warranty.

Emtek F20-3335-75-RH-US26 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the Emtek 3335 Hercules handleset work on a door that is already bored for a regular tubular latch?
No. The 3335 Hercules Smooth handleset is a mortise entryset and needs a door mortised for a mortise lock body, prepped to standard mortise prep ANSI A115.1. A door with a standard tubular latch bore will not accept it without being re-prepped. If the door already has tubular prep, a tubular handleset is the correct direction instead, such as the Sure-Loc Alta tubular handleset.
2) What backset does the Emtek 3335 mortise handleset use, and how do I know which one my door needs?
Two backsets are offered, 2-1/2 inch and 2-3/4 inch. The backset is the distance from the door edge to the centerline of the lock cylinder and knob spindle, so measure the existing mortise pocket and trim centerline on the door you are replacing. Getting it wrong means the handleset trim will not line up with the lock body holes.
3) What is the difference between the F20 and F13 function on this Emtek mortise entryset?
Both are single cylinder: key from outside, thumbturn inside. The F20 entrance function adds buttons on the edge of the lock body so you can set the lock to latch behind you when you leave, or hold it unlocked, and that setting resets each time the door is locked. The F13 has no edge buttons at all, so it only locks when you turn the key outside or the thumbturn inside. Pick F20 if you want the hold-unlocked feature for daytime use; F13 if you want a simpler lock with no accidental button settings.
4) Can I key this Emtek handleset to match my existing Schlage keys?
The 3335 comes with a Schlage C keyway, so it can be keyed alike with other Schlage C cylinders. You can order multiple locks keyed alike by noting it on the order, or key to an existing code by entering "Key Code XXXXX". Locks must share the same keyway to work on one key, so a Kwikset-keyed lock cannot be put on the same key as this one.
5) What door thickness does this Emtek mortise entrance handleset fit?
1-3/4 inch is the standard door thickness for the 3335, which is the usual commercial and solid exterior door thickness. Thicker doors can be accommodated, but you have to state the actual thickness when ordering so the spindles and cylinder length are built to match.
6) What comes in the box with the Emtek 3335 entryset, and do I need to buy the lock body separately?
It ships as a complete set. You get the large exterior handleset, the interior knob or lever with its backplate, the mortise lock box with faceplate and mounting hardware, the strike plate for the jamb, and the remaining mounting screws. The only thing you choose is the inside trim style, backset, function, handing and finish. No separate lock body purchase.
7) What is a comparable mortise entry trim to the Emtek 3335 Hercules handleset for a door already mortise-prepped?
The Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont single cylinder entry mortise trim is the closest peer, since it is also mortise entry trim rather than a tubular set, and Baldwin lists it for a 1-3/4 inch door. The Emtek 3335 Hercules is a single cylinder mortise entry handleset in brass that uses standard mortise door prep to ANSI A115.1 and is sold as a complete set with the mortise lock box, latch and strike. If the opening needs key operation from both sides, Baldwin also builds the 6542 Tremont as double cylinder entry mortise trim.
8) My door is bored for a standard tubular latch and deadbolt, not a mortise pocket. What handleset should I use instead of the Emtek 3335?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules will not work on that door; it requires standard mortise door prep to ANSI A115.1 and a mortise lock pocket. For tubular prep, the Schlage Residential F60 Addison single cylinder keyed entry handleset with Accent lever is a Grade 2 entrance set fitting 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors, and the Sure-Loc Alta is a tubular handleset with adjustable backset. The Pamex FS7P31 Lexington single cylinder handleset in satin nickel also covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors.
9) Is the Emtek 3335 mortise handleset fire rated?
The mortise lock is UL Listed with a UL 180 minute fire rating, in either the ANSI F20 or F13 function.
10) I have a double front door with one inactive leaf. How do I order Emtek mortise sideplates for that?
Use two sideplates. The active leaf takes the single cylinder mortise sideplate, which locks by key outside and thumbturn inside. The inactive leaf takes a dummy sideplate, which gives the matching appearance without the working mechanism. Ordered that way the pair looks like two full sets.
11) What interior knob or lever can I put with the Hercules Smooth exterior handle?
Any Emtek brass knob or lever can be paired as the inside trim, and the selection runs to nearly ninety styles. That spans contemporary bar and square pulls (L-Square, T-Bar, R-Bar in faceted, hammered, knurled, Tribeca, straight knurled and white marble), levers like Hercules, Stuttgart, Helios, Athena, Luzern and Milano, knobs like Orb, Round, Square, Egg and Laurent, plus crystal knobs such as Bristol, Windsor and Diamond. Handy when you want the exterior to read as one look across a building and the interiors to match each room.
12) Is this Emtek handleset rated for commercial door traffic?
Emtek catalogs the 3335 as residential door hardware, a solid brass mortise entryset intended for homes and residential entries. For a commercial opening under heavy daily traffic with a graded requirement, a graded handleset is the right path, for example the Master Lock HDLB Series Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt handleset or the Schlage F60 Addison, also Grade 2.
13) What else could I buy if I want a mortise entry trim rather than a tubular handleset?
Within mortise trim, the Baldwin Estates 6542 Tremont is the closest alternative, offered in single cylinder and double cylinder entry versions, both listed for a 1-3/4 inch door. The Emtek 3335 differs in that it ships as a complete set with the mortise lock body, strike and interior trim, and in Schlage C keyway with a choice of 2-1/2 or 2-3/4 inch backset.
14) My door is 1-3/8 inch thick. Is there a handleset that fits instead of the Emtek mortise set?
The 3335 is built around a 1-3/4 inch door as standard, so for a 1-3/8 inch leaf look at a tubular handleset with a range that covers it: the Pamex FS7P31 Lexington covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch, the Schlage F60 Addison covers 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch, and the Deltana 810871 Montego covers 1-3/8 to 2 inch. Those are also spared the mortise pocket cutting.
15) Do I have to specify handing the way I do on the Emtek 3335 Hercules, on the tubular alternatives?
Handing must be specified on the Emtek 3335 Hercules, left or right and in-swing or out-swing, because all mortise locks are handed. Several tubular peers instead emphasize backset flexibility rather than handing: the Sure-Loc Aspen AN507 single cylinder keyed entry, Madison MA507 keyed entry and Coral CR507 handlesets are all built with an adjustable backset, while the Emtek 3335 Hercules is ordered in a fixed 2-1/2 inch or 2-3/4 inch backset.
16) I want keypad or app entry on the front door. What replaces the Emtek 3335 Hercules handleset?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules is a mechanical mortise set keyed to a Schlage C keyway with no electronic option. For electronic access, the Kwikset 815SCEHFL-CP913CNT San Clemente handleset pairs Halifax lever trim with a Contemporary SmartCode keypad deadbolt for a 1-3/4 inch door, and the Yale Real Living BYRD256 CBARX Assure key free touchscreen deadbolt with Ridgefield passage handleset adds Wi-Fi for 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors.
17) Which handlesets look like the Emtek 3335 Hercules but are actually deadbolt-and-handle sets rather than a mortise lock?
Several peers pair a separate deadbolt with a gripping handle instead of a single mortise box. The Master Lock HDLB series HDLBA0615/4D is a Grade 2 single cylinder deadbolt handleset, and the Yale Real Living BYRD226NRRX and BYRD226CBARX Assure sets combine a touchscreen deadbolt with the Ridgefield handleset for 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inch doors. The Emtek 3335 Hercules works differently: one mortise lock box in the door edge carries both the latch and the bolt, in ANSI F20 entrance or F13 dormitory function.
18) I need a solid brass entry handleset in the same material as the Emtek 3335 but on a tubular door. What are the options?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules is a brass mortise handleset, so it needs a mortise pocket. For solid brass on a tubular-prepped door, Deltana offers the 803871B Hanover, 815871 St. Ann and 825871 Kingston handlesets, all entry function in solid brass. The Deltana 810871 Montego handleset covers doors from 1-3/8 to 2 inches thick.
19) What should I order for the inactive leaf of a double door instead of a second Emtek 3335 Hercules?
For the inactive leaf, order a dummy sideplate so the pair matches visually without lock mechanisms, and keep a single cylinder set like the Emtek 3335 Hercules on the active leaf. Among tubular-prepped alternatives, Weslock offers dummy handlesets in the 6695 Belmont with Impresa knob and the 2815 Hillcrest with New Heaven lever, both listed for 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors.
20) My front door is thicker than 1-3/4 inches. Which handlesets cover that besides the Emtek 3335?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules is built for 1-3/4 inch doors as standard and thicker doors must be specified at the time of order. Peers that publish a thicker range include the Weslock 1411 Traditionale Colonial with Eleganti knob at 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches, and the Yale Real Living BYRD226CBARX Assure touchscreen deadbolt with Ridgefield handleset, also 1-3/4 to 2-1/4 inches.
21) Is a Kwikset 687 Amador or Belleview handleset an equivalent to the Emtek 3335 Hercules?
They are not interchangeable. The Kwikset 687AMD Amador and 687BW Belleview are Grade 3 single cylinder keyed entry handlesets for 1-3/4 inch doors and are sold as exterior trim only, with the 687AMD SMC using an SC1 keyway and SmartKey. The Emtek 3335 Hercules is a complete mortise set: exterior handleset, interior knob or lever with backplate, mortise lock box, latch and strike, keyed to a Schlage C keyway, and it needs a mortise-prepped door.
22) What finishes does the Emtek 3335 Hercules handleset come in, and which ones will change over time?
Six finishes: Flat Black (US19), Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Polished Chrome (US26), Satin Brass (US4), Satin Nickel (US15) and Unlacquered Brass (US3NL). Unlacquered Brass and Oil Rubbed Bronze are living finishes that patina with handling and weather, so on a multi-unit or entry where you want a consistent look for years, a plated finish like Satin Nickel or Polished Chrome holds its appearance.
23) I only want the handleset look without key operation. What is the alternative to the keyed Emtek 3335 Hercules?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules is a keyed single cylinder entry set, locked by key outside and thumbturn inside. If the opening does not need keying, the Schlage Residential JE285 Barcelona style handleset with Seville lever is a non-keyed entry function Grade 2 set for 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inch doors. Where a keyed deadbolt is wanted with passage latch operation, the Schlage JI18/19 interconnected passage lock with keyed deadbolt and Torino lever covers the same door thickness range.
24) Which alternatives to the Emtek 3335 Hercules come as a matched handleset and interior knob combination?
The Emtek 3335 Hercules is ordered with your choice of brass knob or lever for the inside trim, from styles such as the Hercules lever, Round knob and Windsor crystal knob. Peers that ship as a fixed handleset and knob pairing include the Baldwin Wesley handleset with Alcott knob and the Wesley with Carnaby knob, both entrance function, and the Weslock 2810 Hillcrest single cylinder with Hudson knob for 1-3/8 to 2 inch doors.
