It's a dummy function, so nothing latches or locks. The Art Nouveau 475333 grip-by-grip is a surface-mounted pull on both faces with no bolt, no latch and no cylinder. Use it on an inactive leaf of a double door, on a French door held by a flush bolt or multipoint elsewhere, or on any door where the closing hardware is handled by something else. If you need the door to secure, you need a keyed entry or single-cylinder handleset instead, not this one.

No prep at all. The 475333 is surface mount, so there's no cross-bore, no latch bore and no edge prep to cut. That's what makes grip-by-grip dummies the usual pick for a door that's already hung, or for a slab you don't want to drill. It suits doors from 1-3/8 to 1-3/4 inches thick; thicker than 1-3/4 and you need to call the thickness out on the order.

Three things decide the part. Handing of the outside grip, left or right. Finish, either Flat Black Bronze (FB) or Medium Bronze (MB). And door thickness if the door is over 1-3/4 inches, since 1-3/4 is what it ships for by default. A split finish can also be called out if you want the interior grip different from the exterior. Grip by grip is built to order, so getting handing right the first time matters.

Handing here is called from the outside grip. Stand on the exterior side of the door and note which edge the hinges are on: hinges left is a left hand grip, hinges right is a right hand grip. Both hands are built in either bronze finish. Because this is a made-to-order function, a wrong hand isn't a quick swap, so confirm the door before the order goes in.

Solid bronze, lost wax cast, with brass noted in the spec for the handleset build. Cast bronze in Flat Black Bronze or Medium Bronze is a living finish, so it darkens and wears at contact points over time rather than staying uniform like a plated lacquered finish. On an exterior door that's the point, but if you're matching a fleet of doors installed years apart, expect the older grips to have aged.
