Emtek 8085 Quincy 3-5/8" C-to-C Keyed Sideplate Lockset, Dummy (Pair) - Brass Tubular

No door prep is needed. The 8085 Quincy dummy pair is surface mounted, so it screws to the face of the door rather than dropping into a 2-1/8 inch bore. That makes it the set to use on a closet or French door pair where the slab has never been drilled, or where you don't want to bore a new door.

It does neither. A dummy set is trim only, with no latch and no cylinder, so the door has to be held shut by a ball catch, roller catch, or magnetic catch. Buy it when you want the Quincy sideplate look on an inactive leaf or a closet door and don't need it to latch. If you need it to actually secure, you want a keyed or privacy function instead.

3-5/8 inches is the spacing between the two mounting points on the Quincy sideplate. Since the set is surface applied, that dimension controls the screw pattern you'll see on the door face, and it is what to measure against any existing sideplate you're swapping out. If your current plate measures something other than 3-5/8 inches, the holes won't line up and you'll be patching the face of the door.

Handing is a required selection, right hand or left hand, on every 8085 Quincy order. Even though a dummy has no latch, the sideplate and lever are oriented, so a left hand set on a right hand door puts the lever pointing the wrong way. Stand outside the door: if the hinges are on your right, it's right hand.

They fill the same role but are not dimensionally interchangeable. Both are dummy function sideplate style sets in brass: the Emtek 8085 Quincy is a dummy sold as a pair at 3-5/8 inch center-to-center, and the Omnia D12036PD is a double dummy deadbolt lever lockset with plates at 5-1/2 inch center-to-center. That center-to-center difference is what decides it - a plate laid out for 5-1/2 inch spacing will not cover holes drilled to 3-5/8 inch, so match the spacing to what is already bored in the door or specify the door prep to match the set you order.

The Emtek 8085 Quincy is a dummy function set, so it has no cylinder and no bolt to throw. For an opening that needs an operating deadbolt behind a sideplate lever, the Omnia D12036A is a single cylinder deadbolt lever lockset in solid brass, and the Omnia D12036AC is the double cylinder version of the same deadbolt lever lockset with a sideplate design. Choose the single cylinder where a thumbturn on the inside is acceptable and the double cylinder where both sides must be key operated, such as an opening with glass within reach of the bolt.

It's a pair, so you get sideplate trim for both faces of the door. That is what you want on a door that is seen from both sides, like an inactive French door leaf. You still pick one knob or lever style, and it applies to the inside trim selection on the order.

The Quincy plate takes any Emtek brass knob or lever, and the style is a required choice on the order. The range runs from traditional (Providence, Waverly, Victoria, Rope and Ribbon and Reed knobs, Rustic and Santa Fe levers) through crystal (Windsor, Bristol, Georgetown, Old Town) to modern bar and knurled shapes (L-Square, T-Bar, R-Bar in faceted, hammered, knurled, Tribeca and white marble). That's how you match a Quincy sideplate to knobs already hanging elsewhere in the house.

Eight finishes: Oil Rubbed Bronze (US10B), Satin Nickel (US15), Pewter (US15A), Flat Black (US19), Polished Chrome (US26), Polished Brass Lifetime (US3), Unlacquered Brass (US3NL), and French Antique (US7). Unlacquered brass is the one to watch, it has no clear coat and will patina with handling, so it won't stay matched to a lacquered US3 plate on the next door over.

Not for the dummy. A dummy pair ships as surface applied trim with nothing going into the edge of the door, so backset doesn't enter into it. Backset only matters when you move to a functioning Quincy set, where the standard latch is 2-3/8 inches and 2-3/4 inches has to be called out on the order. Those are the two usual residential backsets.

A fixed or inactive leaf takes a dummy set, since nothing needs to latch or lock. The Emtek 8085 Quincy is a dummy function set sold as a pair, giving you trim on both faces of that leaf, and the Omnia D12036PD is a double dummy version with plates at 5-1/2 inch center to center. The Omnia D12036A single cylinder and D12036AC double cylinder are working deadbolt lever locksets, so those belong on the active leaf rather than the fixed one.

The Emtek 8085 Quincy requires handing, right hand or left hand, when it is built with a lever, because the lever has to point toward the opening edge.
