1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RB14-14X ring terminal take?
The RB14-14X is sized for 18-14 AWG stranded copper conductor. Blue insulation is the standard color code for that range, so a blue barrel on a panel usually means 16 or 14 gauge underneath. If your conductor is 22-16 AWG or 12-10 AWG, this is the wrong barrel and the crimp will not hold.
2) Will a Sta-Kon RB14-14X ring terminal fit a 1/4 inch stud?
Yes. The RB14-14X ring is built for a 1/4 inch stud or screw, so it drops onto a standard 1/4-20 terminal block stud, breaker lug, or ground stud. For a #10 or 5/16 stud you need a different ring size in the same 18-14 barrel.
3) Is the barrel on this ring terminal copper or aluminum?
Copper. That makes the RB14-14X suitable for copper conductor only, which is what 18-14 AWG control and branch wiring normally is. Do not use it on aluminum conductor, which needs a connector rated for aluminum.
4) What is the difference between a ring terminal like the RB14-14X and a spade or fork terminal?
The ring is closed, so the stud nut has to come completely off to remove the wire, and the connection cannot vibrate loose off the stud. A fork terminal slips out under a loosened screw, which is faster for service work but not what you want on a motor starter, a ground stud, or anything that sees vibration. For permanent terminations at 1/4 inch studs, the ring is the right choice.
