1) What wire sizes does the Sta-Kon RB14-12 ring terminal accept?
The RB14-12 is sized for 18-14 AWG stranded or solid copper conductor. The blue insulation is the standard color code for that range, so on a panel where you are also running 22-16 (red) and 12-10 (yellow), the blue barrel tells the inspector at a glance that the crimp matches the wire. Anything larger than 14 AWG will not seat in the barrel and will not crimp reliably.
2) Is the Sta-Kon RB14-12 terminal UL listed, and what voltage is it rated for?
It carries UL file E9809 and is rated 600 V. For MRO and institutional work where the submittal has to show a listed termination, that file number is the reference to put on the paperwork. The 600 V rating covers standard control panel, motor circuit, and branch wiring voltages.
3) Can I crimp the RB14-12 with a standard color-coded crimp tool?
Yes. Because it is a nylon insulated barrel in the 18-14 AWG range, it crimps in the blue nest of a standard insulated-terminal crimper. Do not use an uninsulated-terminal die on it, and do not crimp it with pliers, the barrel has to be compressed on the full circumference for the connection to hold its rating.
4) What is the insulation on the Sta-Kon RB14-12 made of, and why nylon instead of vinyl?
The barrel insulation is nylon. Nylon holds up better than vinyl to abrasion and to the heat found in motor junction boxes and engine compartments, and it resists splitting when the crimp flares the barrel. The conductor barrel itself is copper.
