1) What wire gauge does the Sta-Kon RB753 ring terminal crimp onto?
The RB753 is sized for 18-14 AWG stranded copper wire, which is the blue color code on insulated terminals. Run anything larger, like 12 or 10 AWG, and the barrel will not accept the strands; anything smaller than 18 AWG will not hold a reliable crimp. Match the terminal to the conductor, not to the stud.
2) Ring terminal or fork (spade) terminal for a panel or control cabinet?
A ring terminal like the RB753 has to come off the stud entirely to be removed, which is exactly why inspectors and most panel specs prefer it: vibration or a loosening nut will not let the conductor walk out. A fork or spade slips off sideways, so it is only for places you expect to service often and vibration is not a factor. For motor leads, generator studs, grounding bus and anything that shakes, use the ring.
3) Will the RB753 work on aluminum conductors?
No. The barrel is copper, so it is for copper wire only. Aluminum conductors need an AL/CU or AL-rated connector with the appropriate inhibitor compound; crimping aluminum into a copper-only barrel creates a dissimilar metal joint that corrodes and overheats.
4) Do I need a special crimper for Sta-Kon insulated terminals?
Use an insulated-terminal crimp tool matched to the blue 18-14 AWG nest. The nylon sleeve on the RB753 is crimped along with the barrel, so a bare-terminal or general purpose plier-style tool will crush the insulation without forming the barrel properly. 5) Is the insulation on the RB753 nylon or vinyl, and does that matter?
Nylon. Nylon insulation on the RB753 takes abrasion and higher temperatures better than vinyl and resists cracking when the terminal is flexed during pull-in, which is why it is the common choice in control panels and conduit bodies where terminals get handled. Vinyl insulated terminals are the economy equivalent.
