Sta-Kon RM757 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RM757 ring terminal take?
The RM757 is sized for 250 kcmil conductor. It is a one-size lug, not a range terminal, so 250 kcmil copper cable is what it crimps onto. If your feeder is 4/0 or 350 kcmil, you need a different ring in the series.
2) Will the Sta-Kon RM757 fit a 1/2 inch stud or bolt?
Yes. The RM757 ring is drilled for a 1/2 inch stud, which is what you typically see on large breaker lugs, bus bars, and ground bars carrying 250 kcmil feeders. Check the stud diameter at the equipment before crimping, since the ring tongue cannot be enlarged.
3) Is the Sta-Kon RM757 copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductor?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductor. Do not crimp it onto aluminum cable; aluminum feeders need a terminal marked AL or AL9CU with the appropriate oxide inhibitor.
4) Is this ring terminal rated for 600 volt circuits?
The RM757 carries a 600 V rating, so it is usable on standard commercial and industrial power distribution up to 600 volts. It also carries a UL file reference of E9809.
5) Can I crimp a 250 kcmil Sta-Kon ring terminal with hand tools?
Not with ordinary hand crimpers. A 250 kcmil copper lug this size needs a hydraulic or battery powered crimper with the matching die for the barrel; standard plier-style Sta-Kon tools stop well below this range. Set the die to the barrel size and make the number of crimps the barrel markings call for.
6) Why is this Sta-Kon lug blue, and does the color mean anything?
The RM757 has blue nylon insulation. On large Sta-Kon rings the insulation color is a size identifier rather than the small-terminal red/blue/yellow convention, so match the catalog number (RM757) and the 250 kcmil marking rather than relying on color alone when you are pulling stock off the shelf.
7) Does the nylon insulation on this terminal mean I don't need heat shrink or tape?
The RM757 comes with a factory nylon insulating sleeve over the barrel, which covers the crimp area and the cable entry. That is the insulation the 600 V rating is based on. Many installers still add adhesive-lined heat shrink over the barrel in wet or outdoor gear for moisture sealing, but it is not required for the terminal to be used as listed.
8) What is the manufacturer part number and where is this Sta-Kon terminal made?
Order it as Sta-Kon RM757. It is manufactured in Mexico.
