Sta-Kon RM737 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RM737 ring terminal take?
The RM737 is sized for 250 kcmil conductor. It is a one-size lug, so it won't grip smaller feeder sizes like 4/0 or 350 kcmil correctly, you need the matching barrel for whatever conductor you're terminating.
2) What stud size does the RM737 terminal bolt to?
It's a 3/8 inch ring tongue, so it lands on a 3/8 inch stud or bolt, panelboard neutral bar, bus stud, or equipment ground pad. The ring tongue means you have to pull the bolt completely out to install it, unlike a spade terminal.
3) Is the RM737 lug copper or aluminum, and can I put it on aluminum conductor?
The barrel is copper. Use it on copper conductor. For aluminum or copper-clad aluminum feeders you want a lug specifically marked AL9CU or AL7CU with the right compound, not this one.
4) Is the Sta-Kon RM737 rated for 600 volt circuits?
Yes, the insulation on this ring terminal is rated 600 V, which covers standard commercial and industrial branch and feeder work at 120/208, 277/480 and below.
5) Is this ring terminal UL listed?
It carries UL file E9809. That's the point institutional and MRO buyers usually need for a submittal or an inspector on a panel termination.
6) Do I need a special crimper for a 250 kcmil ring terminal like this?
Yes. A 250 kcmil copper barrel is well past hand-plier range, it takes a hydraulic or battery crimp tool with the die matched to the lug. A standard insulated-terminal hand crimper will not make a compliant connection on this size.
7) Why is this Sta-Kon terminal blue, and does the color mean a wire size?
The RM737 is blue, and on nylon insulated terminals the insulation color is the manufacturer's size code rather than a circuit identifier. Don't read the blue as the small-gauge blue used on 16-14 AWG insulated terminals, this is a 250 kcmil lug.
8) Is the insulation on the RM737 heat shrink or nylon?
Nylon insulated, not adhesive-lined heat shrink. Nylon gives you abrasion resistance and a tight funnel entry for the strands, but it is not a moisture seal, so for wet or direct-burial locations you'd add a separate adhesive-lined shrink sleeve over the barrel.
9) Where is the Sta-Kon RM737 made?
Mexico. That matters mainly for buyers tracking country-of-origin on government or federally funded procurement paperwork.
