1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon M250-38 ring terminal take?
The M250-38 is sized for 250 kcmil conductor. It is a tubular barrel lug, so the stripped 250 kcmil copper conductor bottoms in the barrel and the barrel is crimped. Using it on a smaller conductor than 250 kcmil leaves the strands loose in the barrel and will not give a sound crimp, so match the lug to the actual conductor size.
2) Can I use this lug on aluminum conductor?
The M250-38 is a copper lug intended for copper conductor. Aluminum or combination AL/CU terminations need a lug rated and marked for aluminum, usually a dual-rated compression lug with inhibitor compound. Do not put bare aluminum in a copper-only barrel.
3) Is the Sta-Kon M250-38 terminal insulated?
No. It is a non-insulated copper barrel lug, bare metallic finish. If the termination needs covering, you add heat shrink or a boot over the barrel yourself after crimping. Insulated lugs in this size are a separate part.
4) What voltage is the Sta-Kon M250-38 rated for, and is it UL recognized?
Rated 600 V, and it carries UL file E9809. That covers typical 208/240/480 V commercial feeder and panel work, switchgear terminations and ground bar connections. For medium voltage terminations you need a different class of connector.
