Metallics JEB3SS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size and length is the Metallics JEB3SS eye bolt?
The JEB3SS is a 1/4-20 eye bolt with a 3 inch shank length, and a matching nut is supplied with it. The 1/4-20 designation means a 1/4 inch diameter with 20 threads per inch, the standard UNC coarse thread in that diameter, so it mates with any standard 1/4-20 nut, coupling, or tapped hole.
2) Is the JEB3SS eye bolt stainless steel, and can I use it outdoors or in a damp location?
Stainless steel, which is why it gets specified for exterior runs, damp locations, and corrosive environments where a plain or zinc plated eye bolt would rust at the threads. Electricians commonly use eye bolts like this as anchor or tie-off points for messenger wire, support wire, and hanging runs.
3) Does the Metallics JEB3SS eye bolt come with a nut, or do I need to order nuts separately?
A nut is included with each eye bolt, so you do not need to source 1/4-20 nuts separately. What is not included is any washer, backing plate, or through-bolt anchor, so if you are fastening through sheet metal or a hollow section, plan on a washer and whatever backing the substrate needs.
4) How many eye bolts are in a jar of Metallics JEB3SS?
They ship 100 to a jar. The jar pack is the standard MRO and van-stock format for small fasteners, so this is sized for a shop or service truck that pulls a few at a time rather than for a single install.
