Metallics JEB3XXSS – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What thread size and length is the Metallics JEB3XXSS eye bolt?
The JEB3XXSS is a 1/4-20 threaded eye bolt with a 3 inch shank length, and it ships with a matching nut. The 1/4-20 designation means a 1/4 inch diameter coarse thread at 20 threads per inch, so it mates with standard 1/4-20 nuts and tapped holes.
2) Is the JEB3XXSS eye bolt stainless steel, and can I use it outdoors?
Stainless steel, which is why it gets specified for damp, exterior, or washdown locations where a plain or zinc-plated eye bolt would rust. For dry indoor hanging work a plated carbon steel eye bolt will do the same job; the stainless is what you pay for on rooftops, parking structures, pools, and coastal sites.
3) Does the Metallics eye bolt come with a nut, or do I order that separately?
A nut is included with each eye bolt, so you don't need to buy fasteners separately. Anything else for the installation, like washers or an anchor for masonry, is not part of the pack.
4) How many eye bolts come in a pack of JEB3XXSS?
They come 20 to a jar. The jar pack is the handy way to carry them on a service truck or keep them in an MRO crib without loose fasteners scattering, and it's the unit you buy in rather than singles.
5) How thick a material will the 3 inch eye bolt go through?
The 3 inch dimension is the shank, measured below the eye, so your usable grip is 3 inches minus whatever the nut takes up. In practice that covers through-bolting typical wood framing, plywood layers, or a steel plate or channel with room left for the nut to seat.
6) What is a 1/4-20 x 3 eye bolt used for on an electrical job?
It's a general-purpose anchor point: hanging conduit and support wire, guying, tying off messenger or drop wire, suspending light fixtures, and giving you a loop to run a cable or chain through. Metallics catalogues it with its electrical fastener line, so it's the eye bolt an electrician reaches for alongside straps and hangers rather than a rigging-rated lifting eye.
7) Can I order the Metallics eye bolt in a different length or diameter?
Under part number JEB3XXSS you get one configuration only: 1/4-20 by 3 inches in stainless, 20 per jar. There are no size or finish options to pick on this number, so a different diameter or shank length is a different Metallics part.
