Falcon 650007 SP28 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Falcon 650007 extension rod used for on an exit device?
The Falcon 650007 is a 24 inch surface vertical extension rod. On a surface vertical rod exit device, the rods run up and down the face of the door to the top and bottom latch points; the extension rod adds the length needed to reach those latching points on taller openings. It is an OEM Falcon replacement component, so it fits Falcon surface vertical rod exit device assemblies.
2) Will a 24 inch Falcon rod work on my door, or do I need a different length?
Length is the whole decision on a vertical rod. The 650007 is cut at 24 inches, so it suits an opening where the existing rod run needs that much added travel between the device and the top or bottom latch. Measure the rod you are replacing, or the gap from the device chassis to the latch case, before ordering. If your measurement is not 24 inches, this part is the wrong one and you need the Falcon extension rod cut to your length.
3) Does the Falcon 650007 rod fit concealed vertical rod exit devices?
No. The 650007 is built for surface-mounted vertical rod devices, where the rods and latches are exposed on the door face. Concealed vertical rod devices run their rods inside the door and use different, device-specific rod assemblies. Using a surface rod on a CVR device is not a substitution.
4) What finish is the Falcon 650007 rod and will it match my existing exit hardware?
It ships in SP28 Aluminum Painted, a sprayed aluminum-color painted finish common on aluminum storefront and commercial exit hardware. If your existing Falcon device and rods are aluminum painted, the rod will blend in. Against a dark bronze or a plated finish it will stand out, since only the aluminum painted version is offered under model 650007 SP28.
5) Can I replace just the rod instead of the whole Falcon exit device?
Yes, that is the point of the part. The 650007 is a genuine Falcon replacement component, so a bent, binding, or wrong-length rod can be swapped out on an existing Falcon surface vertical rod device without pulling the chassis or the latch cases off the door. For a property manager keeping a run of paired doors in service, it is the cheaper repair path.
6) Will this rod work on a pair of doors with no center mullion?
That is exactly the configuration surface vertical rod devices are used in. Because the device latches at the head and the threshold rather than into a strike at the meeting stile, a pair can be secured without a center mullion, and the 650007 rod is what carries that motion to the top and bottom latches on Falcan-equipped paired openings. It is a component, though, not a complete device, so both leaves still need their own working SVR hardware.
7) Is this a residential part or rated for commercial door traffic?
Strictly commercial. Falcon catalogs the 650007 as commercial door hardware, and it is intended for exit device openings in offices, schools, healthcare, retail, warehouses and municipal buildings where the doors cycle heavily.
8) Does the Falcon 650007 come with mounting brackets or rod guides?
It is sold as the extension rod itself, listed under Falcon exit device parts as a replacement part. Rod guides, latch cases, and device covers are separate components, so if yours are damaged or missing they need to be ordered alongside the rod.
