Falcon 650008 SP313 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) What is the Falcon 650008 exit device part used for?
The Falcon 650008 is a 36 inch surface vertical extension rod, a replacement component for Falcon surface vertical rod exit devices. It carries the top or bottom rod travel between the device chassis and the latch, so it is what you order when a rod is bent, damaged, or missing rather than replacing the whole device.
2) Will the Falcon 650008 rod work on a concealed vertical rod exit device?
No. The 650008 is built for surface vertical rod configurations, where the rods run on the face of the door. A concealed vertical rod device uses rods housed inside the door and takes a different part entirely, so this one will not mount or engage correctly.
3) Can I use this Falcon rod on a Von Duprin or Precision exit device?
Treat it as Falcon only. The 650008 is made to Falcon specifications for Falcon surface vertical rod exit devices, and rod ends, latch engagement, and mounting are brand specific. Match the rod to the device manufacturer.
4) Do I need to replace the whole exit device if one rod is damaged?
No. Swapping in the 650008 extension rod restores the vertical rod function without pulling the complete device, which keeps the opening in service and avoids re-prepping the door. If the latch or chassis itself is worn, that is a separate part.
5) What finish does the Falcon 650008 vertical rod come in?
Dark Bronze Painted, Falcon finish code SP313, sold under the 695 dark bronze option. If the rest of your exit device hardware is in dark bronze, this matches it; for aluminum or brass openings you would want the rod in the matching finish instead.
6) Is the Falcon 650008 rated for a high traffic commercial door?
It is a commercial-grade part, catalogued for commercial rather than residential use, and Falcon lists it for high-traffic settings like schools, hospitals, offices, retail, warehouses, and government buildings.
