Falcon 650008 SP28 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What is the Falcon 650008 SP28 rod used for?
The Falcon 650008 is a 36 inch surface vertical extension rod for Falcon surface vertical rod exit devices. It is the rod that runs up (or down) the face of the door and carries the motion from the push bar to the top and/or bottom latch. If a rod on an existing Falcon SVR device is bent, corroded, or was cut for a shorter opening, this is the genuine Falcon replacement rod in the aluminum painted (SP28) finish.
2) Will a 36 inch Falcon extension rod work on my exit device, or do I need a different length?
Rod length has to match the door height and the device's rod configuration, and the 650008 is built specifically at 36 inches for compatible Falcon surface vertical rod setups. Measure the existing rod you are replacing before ordering. If your opening needs a longer or shorter run, the 36 inch rod is the wrong part, not something to be adapted.
3) Does the 650008 rod fit concealed vertical rod exit devices?
No. It is a surface-mounted rod, intended for Falcon surface vertical rod (SVR) devices where the rod is visible on the door face. Concealed vertical rod devices use rods housed inside the door and take entirely different parts.
4) Is this a genuine Falcon part or an aftermarket rod?
It is a genuine Falcon replacement component, model 650008 SP28, made to Falcon's own exit device part specifications. For property managers and facility maintenance crews standardized on Falcon exit hardware, that keeps the rest of the device assembly untouched during a rod swap.
5) Do I get the latches and strikes with this Falcon rod, or just the rod itself?
Just the rod. The 650008 is a single extension rod supplied as a replacement part, so top and bottom latch cases, strikes, and mounting brackets have to be reused from the existing device or ordered separately.
6) Is the SP28 finish the same aluminum look as most commercial exit devices?
SP28 is a factory-applied aluminum painted finish, which is the common sprayed aluminum look used across commercial exit hardware. It coordinates with standard aluminum-finished Falcon devices rather than with plated brass or bronze hardware.
7) Is the Falcon 650008 rod rated for commercial traffic or is it a light-duty part?
Commercial. Falcon classes the 650008 as a commercial exit device part, built to its commercial standards for high-traffic openings such as schools, hospitals, offices, retail, and government buildings.
