Fernco 33U-205 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will a compression donut work in a no-hub cast iron pipe?
No. The 33U-205 is made for a bell-and-spigot hub on service weight cast iron, which is the flared socket the donut seats into. No-hub (hubless) cast iron has plain ends and needs a shielded no-hub coupling instead, not a donut.
2) Does the 33U-205 work with 2 inch ABS as well as PVC?
Yes. The donut seals on the outside diameter of the pipe, and 2 inch Schedule 40 ABS and PVC share the same OD, so either will seat in the 33U-205.
3) Does a compression donut need any cement, clamps, or bands?
No cement and no clamps. The 33U-205 is a one-piece rubber compression gasket: it seats dry in the cast iron hub and the plastic pipe is driven in, with pipe lubricant to ease it. Nothing else is supplied and nothing else is required beyond lube.
4) Is a Fernco donut suitable for buried or underslab DWV work?
Compression donuts like the 33U-205 are used on gravity drain, waste, and vent cast iron hubs, including work below slab where the hub is accessible. It is not a pressure fitting, so keep it on non-pressure DWV lines only.
