If your opening uses a different cam profile (a Schlage-style straight cam on a mortise lock body, for example), this is the wrong cam and the cylinder will turn without moving the lock.

The cylinder is cut to the Schlage C keyway, the most common commercial Schlage keyway, so a Schlage C blank enters it. Entering the keyway is not the same as operating it: it comes keyed alike, meaning the cylinders in an order share one key of their own, not your existing key bitting.
