1) Will the Oatey 90124 Johni-Bolts work on a standard cast iron or PVC closet flange?
The 90124 Johni-Bolts are 5/16 inch diameter by 2-1/4 inch long closet bolts, which is the standard closet bolt size that drops into the slotted keyway of a typical cast iron, PVC or ABS closet flange. They secure a floor mounted water closet down to the flange, and work on new installs as well as replacing bolts on an existing toilet.
2) What comes in a pack of Oatey 90124 closet bolts - do I need to buy nuts and washers separately?
Everything needed to set one toilet is in the bag. Each plastic bag is packaged in pairs: two bolts with captive washers, two additional washers, and two brass acorn nuts. No separate hardware purchase is needed for the bolt-down. You would still need a wax ring or gasket and, if you want them, bolt caps.
3) Will 2-1/4 inch closet bolts be long enough, or do I need extra long bolts?
At 2-1/4 inches, the 90124 bolts cover standard toilet installations on a flange sitting at or near finished floor level. If the flange is buried under thick tile or a mortar bed, or you are stacking flange extenders or a thick base, the exposed thread may come up short and you should move to a longer closet bolt instead.
4) What does the captive washer on the Johni-Bolt actually do?
It holds the bolt upright in the flange slot so it does not tip over or fall through while you are lowering the bowl onto the wax ring. That matters when you are setting a toilet alone, since you cannot see the bolts through the bowl holes once the china is down.
5) Are Oatey Johni-Bolts solid brass or just brass plated steel?
Solid brass, bolts and acorn nuts both. That is the reason to spec them in a wet floor area or a commercial restroom: a plated steel bolt rusts in the flange slot and seizes, so the next service call turns into cutting the bolt off.
6) How many bags of Oatey 90124 bolts do I need for a bank of toilets?
One bag per toilet. Each bag is a pair, which is exactly what a two-bolt floor mounted water closet takes. For a ten-stall restroom retrofit, order ten. Model number to order against is Oatey 90124.
7) Can I use these bolts on a toilet that needs four bolts or a wall hung fixture?
No. The 90124 is a closet bolt set for floor mounted toilets bolted to a closet flange, supplied two per bag. A wall hung carrier fixture uses carrier bolts or studs sized to the carrier, not closet bolts, and a four-point bowl would need two bags plus matching hardware.
8) Are Oatey Johni-Bolts considered a hazardous material for shipping or facility records?
