1) What are HES 152 mounting tabs used for on an electric strike install?
The HES 152 is a pair of universal mounting tabs that mount inside the jamb to hold an electric strike in place. They work in hollow metal, wood, and aluminum jambs, so you can secure the strike body where the frame itself gives you nothing to fasten to. Satin stainless steel finish, sold one package at a time.
2) Will HES 152 tabs work with a Folger Adam 310 or 700 series electric strike?
Yes. The 152 mounting tabs are listed for use with the Folger Adam 310-1, 310, 700, and 742 Series electric strikes. Folger Adam and HES are both Assa Abloy lines, which is why the tab crosses between them.
3) Do the HES 152 tabs come with screws, or do I need to order fasteners separately?
The 152 is the mounting tab only. If you want the Torx fasteners HES uses on its strikes, those are ordered separately as the HES 157 Torx screws, with the HES 157D tamper-resistant Torx R20 insert bit for driving them.
4) I can't cut into the jamb for an electric strike. Is a mounting tab the right fix, or do I need something else?
Mounting tabs like the HES 152 still require the strike to sit inside the frame; they just give the strike something to fasten to once the cutout is made. If you cannot cut the jamb at all, the surface answer is a surface mounting box instead, such as the HES SMB. For a clean template cut in an ANSI-prepped jamb, the HESCUT-MTK metal template kit covers the 1006, 1500, 1600, 4500, 5000, 5200, 7000, and 7501 strikes in 4-7/8 inch ANSI jamb preparations.
5) What should I use to mount an electric strike when the jamb cannot be cut for a concealed installation?
The HES 152 universal mounting tabs are made to mount inside hollow metal and aluminum jambs, so they assume you can work within the jamb cavity. When the opening will not accept a concealed installation, the Cal-Royal 8641-SM is a single gang surface mount box in the 8600 Series that lands the hardware on the face of the jamb instead of inside it. The 152 tabs stay with the concealed approach; the 8641-SM is the surface-mount route.
6) Is there a mounting accessory for a wood substrate rather than a metal jamb?
The HES 152 tabs are specified for hollow metal and aluminum jambs. For wood, the Securitron SWB is a SAM wood bracket accessory, and the Securitron SAM surface mount kit accessories cover the surface-mount side of that same family. Match the accessory to the substrate you are actually fastening into: the 152 for metal and aluminum jamb interiors, the SWB where the mounting surface is wood.
7) We are doing an all-glass entry with no hollow metal frame. Do the HES 152 tabs work there?
No. The HES 152 mounting tabs are built to mount inside hollow metal and aluminum jambs, which an all-glass entry does not give you. Securitron glass door accessories are the Grade 2 line intended for glass openings, and that is the family to look at when there is no metal jamb cavity to work inside. Confirm the door and header construction before ordering either one.
8) What other brands make surface mount boxes and accessory kits for electric strikes and locks?
Beyond the HES accessory line, Cal-Royal offers the 8641-SM single gang surface mount box in the 8600 Series, and Securitron carries the SAM Surface Mount Kit Accessories along with the SWB SAM wood bracket. Those are surface-mount solutions, a different approach than the HES 152 tab, which mounts the strike inside the jamb.
9) My electric strike runs on AC and buzzes. Does the 152 tab fix that, or do I need a different accessory?
A mounting tab has no effect on strike buzz, that is a power supply issue. The HES 2001-1 converts AC to unfiltered DC and is rated 35 V, 2 Amp; the 2001M does the same at 35 V, 1 Amp and adds an MOV and a self-resettable fuse. Neither is recommended for the 1006 electric strike. If you want an audible indicator instead of silencing one, the HES 2006M signals at 24VDC, 75db at 11-3/4 inches.
10) What is the difference between the HES 152 mounting tabs and an RCI 9500 mortise pin transfer? Both are electric strike installation parts.
They solve different problems on the same opening. The HES 152 is an installation accessory that holds the strike inside a hollow metal or aluminum jamb - a Grade 1 mechanical mounting part with no electrical function of its own. The RCI 9500/9501 series is a mortise pin transfer rated 1.5A at 24VAC with a tamper-resistant design, and its job is carrying power across the opening. If the strike is loose in the jamb you need the 152; if you need power to cross from frame to door, the pin transfer is the part.
11) Is the HES 152 tab ADA compliant?
No. The 152 mounting tab is not ADA compliant. It is a concealed jamb-mounting component and carries no ADA claim, so if ADA compliance is on your spec it has to be satisfied by the operating hardware on the opening, not by this part.
12) Will the HES 152 finish match the strike faceplate on my door?
The 152 is satin stainless steel, in the stainless steel finish family. It sits inside the jamb where it is not visible once the strike is installed, so the finish is a corrosion consideration rather than an appearance one. If you need a visible edge cover, the HES 150 stainless plate installs at the edge of the door to cover the lock and electric strike and comes in 626 finish only.
