The 742-75 series is a 3 hour fire-rated, industrial grade electric strike designed for extreme heavy duty applications. The all stainless steel construction of this device makes it ideal for high abuse applications. 1) Is the HES Folger Adam FP-742-75 the whole electric strike or just the faceplate?
Faceplate only. The FP-742-75 is the stainless steel front plate for a 742-75 electric strike, not a complete strike assembly, so it is what you order when the plate is damaged, mis-finished, or you are changing finishes on an existing 742-75 installation. If you need the working strike itself, order the 742-75 electric strike.
2) What frame does the 742-75 electric strike faceplate go into?
Hollow metal frames. The 742-75 is specified for hollow metal frame applications with 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch throw latchbolts, so the faceplate follows that same prep. It is not an aluminum or wood frame plate.
3) Does the 742-75 work with a mortise lock with a 3/4 inch latchbolt?
Yes, up to a 3/4 inch throw latchbolt with no deadbolt, and it takes either mortise or cylindrical locks. HES states the 742-75 works with a variety of mortise locks without deadbolts, including the Schlage L9000 and Yale 8800, without relocating the strike prep in the frame. The keeper depth is 3/4 inch.
4) Is the 742-75 electric strike fire rated, and does the faceplate matter for that?
The 742-75 is UL 10C fire rated for 3 hour single door and 1-1/2 hour double door, fail secure only, and conforms to CAN4-S104, NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152. It is also UL 1034 burglary-resistant listed, UL 294 listed, and ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1. Those listings apply to the assembly, so use the correct HES faceplate rather than a substitute plate if the opening is a labeled fire door.
5) Can I use a 742-75 electric strike on a door with a deadbolt or on a preloaded opening?
No on both counts. The 742-75 is rated for latchbolts up to 3/4 inch throw without a deadbolt, and it is not a preload capable strike, so an opening where door pressure or a closer loads the latch against the keeper needs a preload-rated device instead.
6) What has to be ordered with a 742-75 electric strike to finish the install?
The strike ships fail secure as standard with deadlatch tabs, a full keeper shim, a plug-in connector, and brackets for major mortise and cylindrical locks. Fail safe and the LBMLCM latchbolt and locking cam monitor are ordered as options. Common add-ons are the 150 strike latch guard, 152 universal mounting tabs, 2001M plug-in or 2001-1 wire-in bridge rectifier, 2004M ElectroLynx adapter, 2005M3 SMART Pac III, and the 2006M plug-in buzzer.
7) If I order the LBMLCM monitor option on a 742-75, will latchbolt monitoring actually work on my door?
With a 3/4 inch keeper, latchbolt detection depends on the door gap not exceeding 1/8 inch. HES lists the LBMLCM as compatible with Sargent 78/8200 Series or Best 40 Series mortise locks with a 3/4 inch latchbolt. On a 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch latchbolt, detection is again gap dependent, so measure the gap before you commit to monitoring on that opening.
8) I do not know what lockset is in the door yet. Is the 742-75 a safe strike to spec?
That is the case it is built for. The 742-75 ships with a range of brackets covering all major mortise and cylindrical locks up to a 3/4 inch throw latchbolt, and it handles 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch throws as well in a hollow metal frame. The limits to watch: no deadbolts, and it is not preload capable.
9) I need a satin stainless faceplate for an RCI 6 Series strike, not an HES 742 - what do I order?
The RCI B6-04-32D is the 6 Series faceplate, 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch with round corners in satin stainless steel. If the strike body in the frame is an RCI 4 or 7 Series instead, the matching plate is the RCI B4704-32D in the same 1-1/4 inch by 4-7/8 inch round-corner size. The HES Folger Adam FP-742-75 is the plate for the 742-75 strike and is offered in satin stainless steel 630 among its finishes.
10) I need to match the other door hardware in the building. What finishes does the FP-742-75 faceplate come in?
Six: 605 bright brass, 606 satin brass, 612 satin bronze, 613 oil rubbed bronze, 629 bright stainless steel, and 630 satin stainless steel. For a fleet of openings where the strike bodies are already in, swapping just the faceplate is how you bring an odd door into line with the rest.
11) Can I mount a 742-75 electric strike on an exterior gate or an outdoor door?
Not rated for it. Although the 742-75 is all stainless steel for corrosion resistance, it carries no outdoor rating and no windstorm rating, so keep it on interior openings and specify a weather-rated strike for exposed exterior applications.
12) What voltage does the 742-75 electric strike run on and how much current does it draw?
12 or 24 VDC, continuous duty either way. Draw is .29 amps at 12 VDC and .15 amps at 24 VDC, which is what you size the power supply and the wire run against when you are putting several strikes on one supply.
13) Do I need to specify handing when ordering a 742-75 electric strike faceplate?
