The 742-75 series is a 3 hour fire-rated, industrial grade electric strike designed for extreme heavy duty applications. The all stainless steel construction of this device makes it ideal for high abuse applications. The 742-75 series comes standard with a variety of brackets to accommodate all major mortise and cylindrical locks with up to a 3/4" throw latchbolts.* This is the one electric strike to choose when you are uncertain of which lockset you may encounter.

Models: 712-75, 732-75, 742-75 (LBMLCM) Compatible with SARGENT 78/8200 Series or BEST 40 Series mortise lock with a 3/4” latchbolt, consult customer support regarding use with other manufacturers. When using with a 3/4” keeper latchbolt detection will be dependent on the door gap not exceeding 1/8” in order to ensure functionality.

*Note: 742-75 is designed to work with a variety of mortise locks without deadbolts, including the Schlage L9000 and Yale 8800 without relocating the strike prep in the frame. Consult HES customer support regarding use with Best 40 Series.

HES 742-75 24D 630 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Will the HES 742-75 electric strike work with a mortise lock, or only cylindrical?
Both. The 742-75 takes cylindrical and mortise locksets without deadbolts, using latchbolts with 1/2 inch, 5/8 inch or 3/4 inch throw, in hollow metal frames. Brackets for the major mortise and cylindrical locks ship with it, which is why it gets specified when the lockset in the field is still unknown. Deadbolt-equipped mortise locks are out, since the strike only handles the latchbolt.
2) Can the HES 742-75 go into a wood or aluminum frame?
No. The 742-75 is a hollow metal frame strike only, with a 1-15/16 inch width, 1-1/2 inch depth and a 6-5/16 inch faceplate to prep for. For wood or aluminum openings you need a strike built for that frame material.
3) Does the HES 742-75 keep the door fire rated?
Yes, in fail secure mode. The 742-75 is UL 10C fire rated for 3 hours on a single door and 1-1/2 hours on a double door, fail secure only, and it conforms to CAN4-S104 (ULC-S104), NFPA-252 and ASTM-E152 for fire doors. Order it fail safe and you give up the fire rating, so a fire door opening has to be the fail secure configuration.
4) Do I have to decide fail safe or fail secure before ordering the 742-75?
Fail safe and fail secure are both orderable configurations, and the mode is field selectable on the strike. Fail secure holds locked without power and unlocks when energized, which is the fire rated configuration. Fail safe unlocks on power loss, which is what egress-on-alarm schemes call for but forfeits the UL 10C fire rating.
5) Is the 742-75 strong enough for a high abuse door like a school or detention corridor?
That is what it is built for. Static holding force is 1,500 lbs and dynamic strength is 70 ft-lbs, the body is all stainless steel for strength and corrosion resistance, and it carries ANSI/BHMA A156.31 Grade 1 plus a UL1034 burglary-resistant listing. Tamper resistant heavy-duty construction throughout.
6) Can I get door position and lock status monitoring on the HES 742-75?
Yes, order the LBMLCM version, which adds a latchbolt and locking cam monitor. With a 3/4 inch keeper, latchbolt detection depends on the door gap staying within 1/8 inch. With 1/2 inch or 5/8 inch latchbolts, detection can also be gap dependent. The monitored models are stated compatible with SARGENT 78/8200 Series and BEST 40 Series mortise locks having a 3/4 inch latchbolt.
7) Will the 742-75 drop into my existing frame prep if I am changing locksets?
The 742-75 is designed to work with a variety of mortise locks without deadbolts, including the Schlage L9000 and Yale 8800, without relocating the strike prep in the frame. Keeper depth is 3/4 inch and a full keeper shim is included. For Best 40 Series use, HES asks that you consult their support first.
