Houzer BG-2700 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What size is the Houzer BG-2700 sink grid?
The grid measures 22-5/16 x 13-5/8 x 1 inches. That one inch of height is what matters most for clearance: it lifts pots and dishes off the bowl floor, so the drain opening stays clear and water moves under the grid rather than pooling around whatever is sitting on it.
2) Does a Houzer bottom grid keep a stainless sink from getting scratched up?
That is the main job. The BG-2700 sits on plastic feet above the bowl floor so cast iron pans, cutlery and stoneware never land on the stainless surface, and it damps the drumming noise a steel bowl makes when you drop something in it. In a rental or a busy commercial kitchen it is the cheapest way to keep a sink looking new through years of turnover.
3) Is a bottom grid the same thing as a sink drain strainer or basket?
Different parts, and you generally want both. The BG-2700 is a wire rack that lies flat on the bottom of the bowl to protect the steel and cushion dishes; it does nothing to catch food scraps. A basket strainer sits in the drain opening and stops debris going down the line. The grid is sized to the BSS-2700 bowl and works around the drain, so it does not replace it.
4) Is the Houzer BG-2700 grid stainless steel, and will it rust in a sink that stays wet?
It is stainless steel throughout, and it stands on plastic feet rather than resting metal-on-metal in standing water. Rinse and dry it periodically like any stainless in a kitchen; food acids and detergent left sitting on any stainless grid are what cause staining, not the water itself.
5) Do I have to pick a finish or size when I order the BG-2700 grid?
No options to specify. The BG-2700 ships one way, in satin stainless steel, under part number BG-2700. Order one per BSS-2700 bowl.
6) Can property managers put the BG-2700 in without a plumber?
There is no installation. The grid drops into the BSS-2700 bowl and the plastic feet hold it in place, so it lifts straight out for cleaning and goes back in with no tools, no fasteners and nothing touching the drain assembly. That makes it a practical turnover item across a portfolio of units running the same sink.
