Houzer BG-4901 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Which Houzer sink does the BG-4901 bottom grid fit?
The BG-4901 Wirecraft grid is cut to one sink bowl only: Houzer model NVS-6500. It is not a universal grid, so if your bowl is a different Houzer model or another brand, this one will either rock on the bowl radius or sit short of the walls. Check the model stamped or labeled under the sink deck before ordering.
2) Will a bottom grid keep an undermount stainless bowl from getting scratched up?
That is the main reason to fit one. The BG-4901 sits on plastic feet above the bowl floor so pots, cast iron and cutlery land on the wire rack instead of the sink surface, and it damps the drumming noise you get when you drop something into a stainless bowl. It also keeps glassware off the bottom, which is where most chips happen.
3) Can property managers order one grid size to cover several different kitchen sinks?
Not with the BG-4901. Houzer bottom grids are matched per sink model, and this one is built for the NVS-6500 bowl at 21-1/4 x 13-13/16 inches. For a mixed unit turnover you need to pull each sink's model number and order the matching grid rather than standardizing on a single part.
4) Is the Houzer BG-4901 grid stainless steel or coated wire?
It is bare stainless steel wire, not vinyl or plastic coated rod, and the finish is satin stainless so it reads the same as a brushed stainless bowl. Only the feet are plastic. Uncoated wire will not peel or split the way a coated grid does once the coating is nicked.
5) Does the BG-4901 grid have a cutout for the drain?
The grid is built as a raised rack that stands clear of the bowl floor on feet, so the drain stays open underneath and water passes through the wire. It is sized to the NVS-6500 bowl, so the drain relief lands where that sink's drain sits. It does not replace a strainer or basket.
