Metallics JATEKW300ZP I-Lag Screws 1/4-14 x 3 Srp Pt Eye Lag Sw St-zn (Jar 100)

It's a 1/4-14 x 3 inch eye lag screw, so a 1/4 inch diameter shank with 14 threads per inch and a 3 inch length under the eye. Sharp point, zinc plated steel.

No. A lag screw threads into wood only. For a steel stud you want a self drilling screw or a beam clamp; for concrete or block use a concrete screw anchor or an eye bolt in an expansion anchor; drywall alone won't carry a suspended load at all. The JATEKW300ZP's 3 inch length is sized to reach good purchase in wood framing.

Each jar holds 100 eye lag screws. Metallics supplies this item in jar pack, which is the handy size for a van or a shop bench rather than bulk boxes.

The JATEKW300ZP is steel with a zinc plating, which is a light corrosion coating for dry interior and protected locations. For sustained outdoor exposure, wet areas, or coastal work, go with a hot dip galvanized or stainless eye lag instead.

Electricians use them as an anchor point in wood for suspending or supporting runs: hanging wire rope, chain, or jack chain for fixtures, catenary support, guy wire terminations, and tie-off points on joists and blocking. The closed eye gives you a loop to hook or thread through once the screw is driven into the wood member. Metallics catalogs it in its electrical fastener line.

In most softwood framing the sharp point lets you start it without a pilot. In hardwood, dense blocking, or close to an edge, drill a pilot slightly smaller than the 1/4 inch shank so the wood doesn't split. The eye is meant to be turned with a bar or screwdriver shank through the loop, not with a driver bit.

Order Metallics part number JATEKW300ZP. That designation covers the 1/4-14 x 3 sharp point zinc plated steel eye lag in the 100 count jar, and it is the only configuration under that number.
