Sta-Kon RH757 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Can I use this 1/0 AWG ring terminal on a 600 volt panel feeder?
Yes. The Sta-Kon RH757 carries a 600 V rating, which covers normal commercial branch and feeder work at 120/208, 277/480 and similar. It is also UL recognized under file E9809.
2) Is the RH757 terminal barrel copper or aluminum, and can I use it on aluminum conductors?
The barrel is copper, so it is intended for copper conductors. Aluminum feeders need a terminal rated AL or AL/CU; a copper-only lug on aluminum wire is the wrong termination.
3) Do I need a special crimper for a 1/0 AWG ring terminal?
Yes. A 1/0 barrel is well past the range of a hand-squeeze crimper for 22 to 10 AWG insulated terminals. Terminating the RH757 takes a heavy lug crimper (hydraulic or long-handle ratchet) with a die sized for 1/0 copper. The terminal itself is supplied as the lug only, no hardware for the 1/2 inch stud.
4) Is the Sta-Kon RH757 a ring terminal or a fork terminal?
Ring (closed barrel ring tongue). The tongue is a closed circle, so the connection can't vibrate off the stud the way a spade or fork tongue can. That's the reason it gets used on battery posts, bus studs and generator terminal blocks where the nut is the only thing holding it.
5) Is the insulation on this Sta-Kon ring terminal rated for heat, and what color is it?
It's a nylon insulated ring terminal with a white/clear sleeve. Nylon insulation is tougher and more abrasion resistant than vinyl, which is why it gets specified where the harness is pulled through conduit or gets handled during service.
