1) What wire size does the Sta-Kon RJ757 ring terminal take?
The RJ757 is built for 2/0 AWG conductor. It will not grip smaller gauge reliably, so if you are terminating 1/0 or 1 AWG you need the terminal sized for that conductor instead, not this one with a filler. The blue nylon insulation on this part is the Sta-Kon color code for the 2/0 barrel.
2) Is this ring terminal rated for 600 volt circuits?
Yes, the RJ757 carries a 600 V rating and is UL recognized under file E9809. That covers typical commercial panel, motor feeder, and switchgear terminations in the 600 V class.
3) Is the barrel on the Sta-Kon RJ757 copper, and does that matter for aluminum wire?
The RJ757 barrel is copper. That makes it a copper-only terminal, so it is not the part for aluminum conductor, where you need an AL9CU dual-rated lug with the factory inhibitor compound. On copper 2/0 it is a direct match.
4) Do I need a special crimper for a 2/0 nylon insulated ring terminal?
Yes. A 2/0 barrel is well past the range of a hand plier-style crimper used on 22 to 10 AWG insulated terminals. You need a heavy duty hydraulic or ratcheting lug crimper with the die matched to the 2/0 barrel. The nylon insulation stays on during the crimp, so set the tool on the barrel and not on the sleeve shoulder.
5) Why is the insulation nylon instead of vinyl on this Sta-Kon terminal?
Nylon insulation handles rough handling and higher temperatures better than vinyl and resists abrasion when conductors are pulled through a crowded panel or wireway. On the RJ757 it is also the color code reference, blue for the 2/0 size.
