1) Will the IDEAL 92-693 BNC compression connector fit my RG-59 cable, and how do I check?
Measure the cable, don't go by the printed label. The 92-693 (connector model 59BNCRAIS) accepts an outer jacket diameter of .230 to .250 inch and a dielectric diameter of .142 to .148 inch. Center conductor must be 23-18 AWG solid, which works out to .023 to .040 inch. RG-59 coax inside those three windows seats correctly; anything outside them, including most RG-6, needs a different series connector.
2) What crimp tool do I need for the IDEAL 92-693 compression BNC, and what strips the cable?
These are compression connectors, so a compression tool is required, not a hex crimper. IDEAL lists the 30-793 OmniSeal PRO XL and the 33-632 Linear X3 for compressing them. For cable prep, the 45-605 PrepPRO or the 45-321 stripper. None of those tools come with the connectors, so order the tool separately if you don't already carry one.
3) Will this BNC connector work on tri-shield and quad-shield RG-59, or only regular shield?
All three. The RTQ design on the 92-693 covers regular, tri and quad shield RG-59 in one connector, provided the cable still falls inside the .230 to .250 inch outer jacket range. That is the practical reason to standardize on it across a building where the installed coax came from several different manufacturers.
4) Why pick a 90 degree BNC connector instead of a straight one for a camera install?
The right angle head turns the cable immediately at the connector, which is what you want when a camera housing or a headend rack leaves no room behind the socket for a straight body plus a cable bend radius. The 92-693 is the 90 degree version for exactly that routing problem. If you have clearance behind the jack, a straight RG-59 BNC compression connector is simpler to seat and cheaper to stock.
5) Is the IDEAL 92-693 BNC good enough for HD-over-coax camera signals, or just analog CCTV?
It is specified from 0 MHz to 3 GHz, with return loss better than 35dB up to 1 GHz, better than 25dB up to 2 GHz and better than 20dB up to 3 GHz. That bandwidth covers analog CCTV and HD-over-coax formats that run well under 3 GHz. It is built for 75 ohm coax, which is what video systems use, so don't put it on 50 ohm RF cable.
6) How many BNC connectors come in the IDEAL 92-693 pack?
Five connectors per pack, all the 90 degree RG-59 compression type. For a camera run that is one pack per two or three cameras depending on whether you are terminating both ends, so size the order against your drop count before you leave the shop.
7) What is the connector body made of, and how do I tell the series apart in the toolbag?
