B-LINE E59-M30C129A01P-A2 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is this Iprox M30 sensor normally open or normally closed?
Normally closed. The E59-M30C129A01P-A2 conducts with no target present and opens when a target enters the sensing field. If your control scheme needs contact closure on target detection, this is the wrong output and you want the normally open version of the same body style.
2) Can I mount this inductive proximity sensor flush in a metal bracket?
No. This one is un-shielded, so the sensing field wraps past the face and surrounding metal will trip it. Un-shielded sensors need a clear zone around the head, typically mounted proud of the bracket or in a non-metallic mount. If you need to embed the barrel flush in steel, specify a shielded (embeddable) version instead.
3) Will this sensor survive washdown or outdoor use?
Yes. Ratings are NEMA 4, 4X, 6, 6P, 12, 13 and IP67 plus IP69K, so it handles hosedown, temporary submersion and high pressure high temperature washdown. The barrel is stainless steel with a polycarbonate end bell and polyphenylene sulfide front cap, and it runs from -40 to 158 F (-40 to 70 C), which covers unheated warehouses and freezer dock areas.
4) Does the E59-M30C129A01P-A2 come with a cable, or do I need a cordset?
It terminates in a 3 pin pigtail with a dual key micro connector, so the sensor ships with a short lead and connector head. You supply the mating micro cordset in the length your run needs, and it is not included.
5) What size hole and thread does the E59-M30 sensor need, and how much room behind the panel?
It is an M30 tubular barrel, 1.18 in diameter, so it drops into a 30 mm clearance hole and is secured with the jam nuts on the threaded body. Overall height is 2.92 in, which is the depth to allow behind the mounting face plus room for the connector lead.
6) How do I tell from the sensor itself whether it is powered and whether it has seen the target?
There is a single LED that reads green on power up and turns red when the output is energized. That gives a maintenance tech a two second check at the machine: no light means no power or a broken lead, green means live but no target, red means the target is being detected.
7) Will an inductive proximity sensor detect plastic or cardboard on my conveyor?
No. The E59-M30 is an inductive type, which senses metal targets only. Plastic, cardboard, glass and liquids will not trip it. For non-metallic product detection use a photoelectric or capacitive sensor instead.
8) Can I switch a motor or solenoid directly with this sensor?
Only if it draws 300 mA or less. Maximum AC current is 300 mA, which suits relay and contactor coils, pilot lights and AC PLC inputs. A motor or a large solenoid needs an interposing relay between the sensor and the load.
9) How repeatable is this sensor for position detection?
Accuracy is within 3 percent of the sensing distance, which is tight enough for end of travel, part present and count applications. For positioning that needs tighter repeatability than that, use a mechanical or magnetic limit device rather than an inductive prox.
