1) Will the Isonas clamshell prox card work with my existing 125 kHz proximity readers?
The Isonas clamshell badge is a 125 kHz RFID proximity credential, so it reads on 125 kHz prox readers. Format matters as much as frequency: it comes in both Isonas proprietary and HID formats, so specify which one your readers and access control system are already programmed for. If your site runs 13.56 MHz smart card readers instead, this card will not read on them, though the same clamshell is offered in MiFare DESFire EV2 at 13.56 MHz.
2) Do I need to specify a card format when ordering Isonas prox badges for an existing building?
Yes, and it's the thing most likely to get the order wrong. These clamshells are produced in Isonas proprietary format and in HID format. If you're adding badges to a system already in service, match the format your existing cards use so the facility code and card numbering line up with your controller; a 125 kHz card in the wrong format reads as an unknown credential.
3) Can I clip this badge to a lanyard or badge reel without punching it myself?
There's a pre-punched hole already in the card, so it goes straight onto a lanyard, clip, or reel out of the box. That matters with a clamshell: the hard ABS/PVC body holds a prox chip and coil inside, and slot-punching one yourself risks damaging it.
4) For a warehouse or maintenance crew that beats up their badges, is a clamshell better than a thin prox card?

The card comes in white only, giving you a blank face to work with. Clamshells are not run through a direct card printer the way thin PVC cards are; the standard approach is a printed adhesive badge label or photo insert applied to the white face.
