Isonas CT-4-100 – Frequently Asked Questions
1) Will the Isonas cap tag work with a reader that isn't 125 kHz?
No. The Isonas proximity cap tag is a 125 kHz RFID credential, so it only reads on low-frequency 125 kHz proximity readers. A 13.56 MHz smart card reader will not see it at all. Check what frequency your reader head runs before ordering these for a site.
2) Can I stick a proximity tag onto a student ID card or a phone instead of issuing badges?
That is exactly what the Isonas cap tag is built for. It's a small adhesive-backed RFID disc that turns an item you already carry into a credential, so student ID cards, books, laptops and cell phones all become readable at the door. Useful in schools and multi-tenant buildings where you don't want to hand out a second card.
3) Is this adhesive prox tag rated for outdoor door readers in cold weather?
Operating range on the cap tag is -10F to 120F. That covers most exterior openings in temperate climates, but a credential left in a vehicle in a deep-winter or desert-summer region can run past both ends of that band. The body is PVC, not a potted or ruggedized housing.
4) Will a stick-on RFID tag read if I put it on a metal laptop or phone?
Metal is the limitation with any 125 kHz proximity credential, including the Isonas cap tag. Low-frequency RFID detunes when mounted directly against a metal surface, so on an aluminum laptop lid or a metal-backed phone you should apply the tag to a plastic case or a non-metallic area. On paper, plastic and card stock, which is what the tag is intended for, it reads normally.
5) Should I use adhesive cap tags or regular prox cards for my building?
Pick cap tags when the user already carries something you can attach a credential to, or when you're tagging assets rather than people. They're small, stick on, and cost you nothing in extra items to carry. Choose a standard prox card when you need a photo ID, a printed badge face, or a slot punch for a lanyard. Both read on the same 125 kHz head, so you can mix them on one system.
6) What color and material is the Isonas cap tag, and can I print or label it?
White PVC. The flat white face takes a label or a handwritten ID number, which is how most facilities track which tag went to which person or asset. Only one finish is offered, so a fleet of them will all look the same.
7) Is this cap tag meant for commercial access control or home use?
It's a commercial access control credential. Isonas cap tags are sold as credentials for hardwired electronic access control systems, so the typical buyer is a security integrator or a facility standardizing badges across a campus, not a homeowner with a single smart lock.
