These are 13.56 MHz DESFire EV3 credentials, so the reader has to be a 13.56 MHz smart card reader configured for DESFire. A 125 kHz proximity-only reader will not read them. Many multi-technology access control readers cover both 13.56 MHz and 125 kHz, and those will pick these up; a legacy prox-only head end will not.

It is the credential, the card itself, in a 50 count pack. It is not a reader and not a controller. You still need the reader at the door and the access control system behind it; these are what you hand to residents, staff, or subcontractors to present at the reader.

Not on the prox-only doors. A DESFire EV3 card at 13.56 MHz will not present to a 125 kHz reader, so on a mixed site you either swap those reader heads for multi-technology units that read both frequencies, or you issue people two credentials during the transition. Most facilities doing this phase readers first, then reissue badges once every opening reads 13.56 MHz.

One order is a 50 pack of DESFire EV3 4K credentials, not a single card. If you are badging a building and need 200 credentials, that is four packs. For a handful of replacement badges on an existing site, a 50 pack is the smallest unit sold here.

DESFire EV3 is an encrypted smart card standard running at 13.56 MHz, where classic 125 kHz prox transmits a fixed number with no encryption and can be cloned with an inexpensive copier. The 4K refers to card memory, which matters if you are storing more than a credential number on the badge, for instance access control plus a second application. For a commercial site standardizing on one badge across doors, the EV3 card is the current-generation choice; the tradeoff is that every reader in the building must speak 13.56 MHz DESFire.
