1) Will the Kaba Ilco R2800 housing work with my existing small format interchangeable cores?
The R2800 is a small format IC core housing, so it takes SFIC cores rather than a fixed pinned cylinder. Both 6-pin and 7-pin cores are covered: the R28106, R28206 and R28406 are 6-pin housings, while the R28107, R28207, R28407, R28507 and R28607 accept 6 and 7 pin. Match the housing to the core stack height you already key in your facility, because a 6-pin-only housing will not take a 7-pin core.
2) What length Kaba Ilco R2800 mortise housing do I need for my door?
Mortise housing length is what decides fit, and the R2800 thin head mortise runs 1-1/4 inch (31.7mm) on the R28106, 1-3/8 inch (34.9mm) on the R28107, 1-1/2 inch (38.1mm) on the R28507 and 1-5/8 inch (41.2mm) on the R28607. The tapered head mortise housings are shorter: 15/16 inch (23.8mm) on the R28406 and 1 inch (25.4mm) on the R28407. Measure the cylinder coming out of the lock body, from the shoulder to the back face, and order the matching length.
3) Should I order a thin head or tapered head IC mortise housing?
Thin head and tapered head are two different collars for two different preps. The tapered head R2800 housings are mortise only and come in 15/16 inch and 1 inch lengths. The thin head housings serve mortise or rim duty and cover the longer 1-1/4 through 1-5/8 inch range. Only the thin head mortise housing can be converted to a rim cylinder in the field, so if you want one housing that can go either way, thin head is the one to stock.
4) Can I convert a Kaba Ilco R2800 mortise cylinder housing into a rim cylinder?
Yes, but only the thin head mortise housing, and you need the R2800 Rim Cylinder Conversion Kit, which is sold separately. The conversion is done in the field: the cam or tailpiece is removable and interchangeable, so the same housing serves either a mortise lock or a rim exit device. Tapered head housings are mortise only and do not convert. If you would rather not stock the kit, order the R28206 or R28207 thin head rim housing outright.
5) Which cam do I order with an Ilco R2800 IC mortise housing for a Schlage or Sargent lock?
Cam choice is a separate selection on the R2800 and it has to match the lock you are going into. The options are Standard, Cloverleaf, Schlage L, Sargent/Yale, and Adams Rite. There is also a No Cams option if you already hold a stock of cams and just want the housing. Cams are interchangeable and removable, so a wrong-cam housing is a swap rather than a return.
6) Will an Ilco R2800 cylinder housing work in an Adams Rite storefront lock?
The R2800 offers an Adams Rite cam option, which is the cam a narrow stile aluminum storefront deadlatch takes. The R2800 is the housing only, a replacement cylinder shell that accepts a small format interchangeable core. The core, keyed to your system, is a separate item. What you select on the housing is head style and length, pinning capacity (6 pin, or 6 and 7 pin), cam type, and finish.
