Dormakaba LR1071S-26D-41 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What door applications work with the Kaba Simplex L1000 series?
The L1000 series fits standard cylindrical lock prep doors. Works on interior office doors, storage rooms, and secure areas. Requires 2-1/8" bore hole and 1" cross bore. Check door thickness is 1-3/8" to 1-3/4" for proper fit.
2) How do I determine the correct handing for this lock?
Stand on the side where hinges are not visible. If hinges are on your right, order right hand. If hinges are on your left, order left hand. The lever direction changes based on handing selection.
3) What finish options are available for the L1000 series?
Common finishes include satin chrome, bright brass, and oil rubbed bronze. Finish codes vary by manufacturer specifications. Verify exact finish availability when ordering to match existing hardware.
4) How many combination codes can I program?
The L1000 typically allows one primary combination code. Code length varies from 2 to 6 digits. Some models support multiple user codes. Check specific model documentation for exact programming capabilities.
5) What security grade does this lock meet?
Kaba Simplex locks typically meet ANSI Grade 2 or Grade 3 standards. Grade 2 offers higher security for commercial applications. Grade 3 works for light commercial and residential use. Verify specific grade rating for your model.
6) Does the key override work independently of the combination?
Yes, the key override operates separately from the pushbutton combination. Key access works even if combination is forgotten or disabled. Provides emergency access and management control.
7) What replacement parts are commonly needed?
Common parts include pushbuttons, springs, and lever handles. Internal mechanism components may need service over time. Keep model number for ordering correct replacement parts from manufacturer.
8) Can I install this lock in a standard door prep?
Yes, fits standard cylindrical lock preparation. Use manufacturer template for exact positioning. Mark strike plate location carefully. Test fit before final installation. Some adjustment may be needed for proper alignment.
9) How do I maintain the pushbutton mechanism?
Clean buttons regularly with mild soap and water. Avoid harsh chemicals that damage finish. Lubricate internal mechanism annually with light machine oil. Check button return action and adjust tension as needed.

The L1000 series includes various lever styles and functions. Models differ in privacy function, passage mode, and keying options. Compare features like combination programming and override options when selecting.
11) Does this lock work in high-traffic commercial environments?
Performance depends on specific grade rating and model. Grade 2 models handle moderate commercial traffic. Heavy-duty applications may require Grade 1 options. Consider usage frequency when selecting appropriate model.

    Simplex L1000

Posted by Tyler Coviello on Feb 25th 2025

The Dormakaba Simplex L1000 is a workhorse of a lock. This mechanical pushbutton lock offers keyless convenience with the added security of a key override. 1 It's built tough, ideal for high-traffic areas, and offers both combination entry and a privacy function. Installation is generally straightforward. The combination is easy to set and change, a big plus. 2 While it's not the cheapest option, its durability and reliability make it a worthwhile investment for those prioritizing security and ease of use. The key override is a great backup in case of forgotten combinations or emergencies. It's a bit industrial looking, not the most elegant, but its functionality outweighs its aesthetics. Four out of five stars for robust performance.

    Mechanical lever lock

Posted by Tyler Coviello on Nov 7th 2024

The Dormakaba L1000 Series lever lock is a pretty cool gadget for your door! It's easy to use, with a smooth lever and a simple keypad. No more fumbling for keys – just punch in your code and you're in! One of the best things about this lock is that it's super flexible. You can set up different codes for different people, so you can give access to whoever you want. Plus, it's easy to change the code if you need to. Another cool thing is that it doesn't need batteries! That means no more worrying about dead batteries when you're in a hurry. While it's generally a great lock, it's worth noting that it might be a bit tricky to install yourself, so you might want to call in a pro.
