Kawneer KW048964-17 – Frequently Asked Questions

1) What exit device does the Kawneer KW048964-17 faceplate fit?
The KW048964-17 is a radius deadlatch faceplate built as a Kawneer service replacement for the Adams Rite 8400 Series exit device. It is the curved-profile faceplate that covers the deadlatch at the lock stile, and it is intended for that device specifically rather than as a universal faceplate.
2) Does the KW048964-17 deadlatch faceplate come with weatherstrip, or do I order that separately?
The weatherstrip is built into the faceplate. The KW048964-17 is supplied as a radius faceplate with integrated weatherstrip, so you get the seal at the latch point as part of the same part rather than sourcing a separate gasket.
3) Do I have to replace the whole exit device, or can I just swap the deadlatch faceplate?
You can just swap the faceplate. The KW048964-17 is sold as a replacement component for restoring an existing Adams Rite 8400 installation without replacing the full device, which is the usual fix when the faceplate is bent, scarred, or the weatherstrip has failed and the door is no longer sealing or latching cleanly.
4) Will the radius faceplate match my aluminum storefront doors?
Finish is Clear Aluminum, which is the standard match for commercial aluminum storefront doors and frames. The radius profile is the curved edge style, so confirm your existing door stile uses a radius faceplate rather than a flat one before ordering, since the two are not interchangeable in the same prep.
5) Is this a genuine Kawneer part or an aftermarket copy?
It is a genuine Kawneer service part, carried under the Kawneer Service Parts program with model number KW048964-17. That matters on storefront work because the faceplate has to drop into the existing stile prep without redrilling.
6) Is the Kawneer KW048964-17 faceplate suitable for a high-traffic commercial door?
It is a commercial-grade part, not a residential one. Kawneer lists it for commercial use and it is commonly serviced on high-traffic egress doors in offices, schools, healthcare and retail, where the deadlatch faceplate and its weatherstrip take repeated abuse.
